Our journey begins with a couple of days at sea, so make the most of your sumptuous surroundings as we sail south to Topolobampo in Mexico. Here you can venture on the railroad through the Copper Canyon or relax on the beach before our voyage continues to Guaymas. We move on to the seaside town of La Paz, from which there are boat trips to desert islands in a UNESCO biosphere reserve – watch out for dolphins and sea lions. Nature-lovers will be wowed by Isla Natividad, too, where elephant seals bask on its beaches. And then it’s back via San Diego to the port of Manzanillo, a destination favored by anglers for its marlin-rich waters – or to just relax on the beach. Next, we call by Puerto Vallarta, a laidback city known for warmly welcoming members of the LGBTQ+ community. At Mazatlán, dine on seafood, admire the French baroque architecture, and sit on the sands in the shade of the palm trees. Cabo San Lucas is the place to watch whales put on a magnificent show in the early months of the year, when they visit to feed and breed. All too soon, it’s time to return to San Diego once more.

Itinerary

01.

San Diego, United States Of America

dec 21, 2026

departure 7:00 PM

Embrace the laidback lifestyle of this coastal Californian city, where the weather is as sunny as the dispositions of its inhabitants. There are 17 miles of pristine coastline, so pick a stretch of sand to lay your towel upon, admire cliffside views on a coastal hike, or take to the waves with a surf lesson – this is, after all, one of the world's most renowned surfing destinations. In the heart of the city, you'll find the 1,200-acre Balboa Park, a leafy oasis that houses multiple museums, as well as Japanese gardens and the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Refuel at one of the many local taquerias or independent burger joints.

Topolobampo, Mexico

dec 24, 2026

5:00 AM - 11:59 PM

Separated from the Sea of Cortés by deep dunes, Topolobampo, on the Gulf of California in Mexico, has a history as rich as its marine life. Founded by American settlers in the 1800s as a Utopian society, the cobblestoned town's many tales are told well at the Museo de Topolobampo. For sea views, climb the Faro de Topolobampo, the town's 19th-century lighthouse. There are also boat trips to enjoy, paddleboarding in the clear harbor waters – look out for seals and dolphins – and birdwatching in the nearby wetlands. Rail fans can board the Chihuahua-Pacific Railroad, also known as El Chepe, which passes through the Copper Canyon in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains.

Guaymas, Mexico

dec 26, 2026

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Anchor

Flanked by the Gulf of California, which Jacques Cousteau nicknamed ‘the Aquarium of the World', and the arid Sonoran Desert, the Mexican port town of Guaymas serves as the perfect base for exploring both beautiful white-sand beaches and rugged desert trails. Pay a visit to a pearl farm in Bacochibampo Bay to learn about how ultra-rare Sea of Cortez pearls are cultivated; enjoy plump, freshly caught shrimp at the bustling Mercado Municipal; and admire the neoclassical architecture of San Fernando Church.

07.

La Paz, Mexico

dec 27, 2026

8:00 AM - 6:00 PM

5 EXCURSIONS

Cradled between the stark sands of Baja and the fertile waters of the Sea of Cortez, La Paz offers a host of challenging opportunities. Dubbed `the World's largest fish trap,` the area is home to over 800 species of fish and 2,000 species of invertebrates. Giant manta rays and whales navigate the depths while dolphins and sea lions frolic on the surface. Deep sea fishing, diving and sightseeing boats are available for charters.

Isla Natividad (Sightseen Only), Mexico

dec 29, 2026

7:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Located about halfway down the peninsula of Baja California, Isla Natividad, or Nativity Island, is both remote and remarkable. The island is home to a small fishing community, mainly engaged in sustainable lobster fishing. The local inhabitants have worked to preserve the island's ecosystem and maintain their traditional fishing practices, creating a harmonious balance between human activity and the environment. Join local fishermen on their boats and learn about sustainable practices while enjoying the thrill of the catch. The island's natural beauty cannot be overlooked: dramatic landscapes include rugged cliffs, hidden coves, and stunning beaches, while the surrounding waters are teeming with marine life, making it a haven for divers, snorkelers, and marine enthusiasts. Find a mask, snorkel and some fins, and explore vibrant coral reefs, encounter diverse fish species. If you're very lucky, you might even spot some whales and dolphins in the offshore waters.

Manzanillo, Mexico

jan 02, 2027

9:00 AM - 6:00 PM

3 EXCURSIONS

Located on Mexico's Pacific coast, Manzanillo is a small city that derives its name from the manzanilla trees that thrived, laden with poisonous tangerine-colored fruit, beside its original wharves. Searching for Chinese treasure in the Pacific during 1522, Hernán Cortés and his minions dropped anchor in the Bay of Salagua, which is located just north of Manzanillo, while looking for safe harbors and good shipbuilding sites. Shortly thereafter navigator Alvaro de Saavedra discovered the Bay of Manzanillo and christened it Santiago de la Buena, or Santiago's Bay of Good Hope. It became a principal departure point for important expeditions and twice sheltered Cortes' galleons from marauding Portuguese pirates. Over the next 300 years, the Pacific Coast's history is filled with accounts of pirates from Portugal, England, France and even Spain assaulting, looting and burning ships for their rich cargos. In recent times, the harbor has been modernized and deepened to allow access to all major shipping lines from around the world.

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

A masterclass in reinvention, Mazatlán is a low-key Mexican resort on the Pacific with beaches as far as the eye can see, and a seemingly never-ending boardwalk running alongside the waves. Impressive landmarks in the sensitively revamped old town include the 19th-century Teatro Ángela Peralta and the towering Immaculate Conception Basilica. The historic center has been modernized and offers alluring bars and restaurants, as well as art galleries to browse. Don't miss the opportunity to taste classic handmade tequila at venerable blue agave plantations and small-scale distilleries.
