Next, it’s off to the maritime playground of Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine for kayaking, cycling, or hiking along the red sandstone cliffs. Discover the French archipelago of Saint Pierre et Miquelon before hopping across the Gulf of St. Lawrence to Sydney, Nova Scotia, historical capital of Cape Breton. A sea day brings us back to the province of Quebec where, at Baie-Comeau, golden trees meet a shoreline dotted with lighthouses. But before you step out into the wild, visit the Old Trading Post to learn what life was like for local First Nations and French settlers during the 19th-century fur trade, with costumed guides touring recreated wood cabins. And in the Museum Of The North Shore Region, traditional canoes and a dogsled accompany multimedia exhibits uncovering Sept-Iles' 8,000 years of human habitation.
