Boracay and Hong Kong are just two of the highlights of this enthralling cruise from Singapore to Tokyo. The port of Muara in Brunei is our first stop before we continue along the north Borneo coast to Malaysia’s Kota Kinabalu, with its markets and vibrant waterfront. Sailing on to the Philippines, we call in at Palawan’s Puerto Princesa before stopping at Coron, with its stunning white-sand Banol Beach. Idyllic Boracay, beloved by snorkelers, is next, before we reach the spirited capital, Manila. After a short hop to Subic Bay, where there is sunken treasure to explore, we spend a relaxing day at sea sailing to the bright lights of Hong Kong. Two nights will leave you wanting more of this endlessly fascinating metropolis of Hong Kong, but we are bound for Kaohsiung, the busiest harbor in Taiwan, and the Japanese island of Ishigaki-jima, with its Buddhist temples. We then head to trendsetting South Korea, with visits to Jeju island, the city of Yeosu, Incheon, gateway to Seoul, and Busan, much loved by Koreans for its temple of Beomeo-sa. Heading south, we arrive in Japan in cherry blossom season, stopping first at Fukuoka and then Nagasaki, which was dramatically rebuilt after World War II, before continuing to Kagoshima, across the bay from Sakurajima volcano. After calling in at Beppu, we reach Kochi, with its well-preserved Shogun castle. Our final stops are Kobe and Nagoya before we disembark in Tokyo.

Visitors from the sea have long been welcomed at this port on Kyushu Island in Japan's lush, subtropical south. Set as close to Taiwan as to Tokyo, it's brimming with pan-Asian flavors and there are plenty of ways to savor them. See them by lantern light when the sun goes down on the waterfront at Nakasu Island River, and succumb to a ladle or two of meaty Hakata pork broth with slurpable ramen noodles. For a more refined authentic taste, delve into Fukuoka's Edo-era history at the ruins of its 17th-century castle, or, in Shofukuji, Japan's first Zen temple, founded in the 12th century, with its wooden pagoda and golden statues of Buddha.
