Sail away from the boulevards of Lima and relax into four days at sea. We next sight land at Hanga Roa, Easter Island, one of the most remote inhabited places on Earth, which we have two days to explore, including witnessing first-hand the monumental, ancient statues of human forms, the moai. Two more days at sea bring us to Adamstown, Pitcairn, where many of the residents descend from the 18th-century mutineers of the HMS Bounty, and a further two sea days precedes an island-hopping adventure around French Polynesia. See the pink sands of Fakarava in the Tuamotu Islands, purchase local pearls in Rangiroa, and discover the heavenly backwater of Huahine. Our voyage concludes in Papeete, Tahiti, where you could follow in the footsteps of the French artist Paul Gauguin.

Callao (Lima), Peru

departure 7:00 PM

Callao (Lima), Peru picture
The gateway to Lima, Callao offers visitors the perfect balance of things to see, do, and relax. At just seven miles from the capital, you would be forgiven for thinking that Callao is simply a suburb, but this city very much has it's own identity. The old center of Callao has houses from the Lima colonial era and public squares with historical monuments, such as the stunning Plaza Miguel Grau and Plaza Independencia. The popular Punta district offers locals and visitors alike a wide variety of restaurants to choose from, most featuring the Peruvian classic, ceviche. There's also a lovely boardwalk where you can walk off your meal while soaking-in views of the sea and surrounds.

Hanga Roa, Chile picture
Rapa Nui, the indigenous name of Easter Island, astounds with sights unlike anywhere else in the world. The creative Polynesian inhabitants of the 13th to 16th centuries built monumental stone statues, known as moai, of which 1,000 still dot the island. Carved human figures with massive heads, they represent ancestral chiefs facing inland to protect the community. Some are lined up in imposing rows (Ahu Tongariki, Ahu Nau Nau), others are staggered over hillsides and craters. What boggles the mind is how the inhabitants of this incredibly remote island, 2,300 miles (3,700km) from the Chilean coast, managed to carve and move such colossal sentinels, many weighing between 10 and 12 metric tons. Solidified volcanic ash was their material and ropes, levers, and log rollers believed to be their method. Beyond the statues, petroglyphs depicting birdmen can be seen at Orongo Ceremonial Village. Today's occupants live in Hanga Roa village, your welcoming entry to this astonishing island.

Adamstown, Pitcairn Island

Adamstown, Pitcairn Island picture
Of all the curious places in the world, Adamstown is surely one of the most intriguing. This tiny community is the only settlement in the four volcanic Pitcairn Islands, which are strewn across hundreds of miles of the largest marine reserve in the world. Its 35 residents are almost all descendants of the 18th-century mutineers from HMS Bounty and the Tahitians who accompanied them. Please note that we will not be disembarking in Adamstown; however, weather and sea conditions permitting, residents of the island may come aboard to meet guests, creating a rare opportunity for personal interaction with one of the world's most remote communities and insight into their unique heritage, all while enjoying the beauty and charm of this legendary, bucket-list destination from the comfort of the ship.

5 EXCURSIONS

Fakarava, French Polynesia picture
Few islands melt the heart like the 100 or so that make up French Polynesia. Cast adrift in the South Pacific, midway between California and Australia, this large atoll is a semi-autonomous territory of France, part of the Tuamotu archipelago, northeast of the main island of Tahiti. Together with six neighboring islands, it proudly bears the UNESCO stamp on its biosphere reserve, which is home to an astonishing array of coral and other marine life, from colorful clouds of surgeonfish to sleek manta rays. Intrepid divers come from across the world to swim with great grey reef sharks at Fakarava's southern edge – snorkeling, kayaking, and paddle boarding are among the tamer watersport choices. Rotoava is the sleepy main village, and slower pleasures include wandering its few streets, shopping for the lustrous pearls farmed here, and wiggling toes in the island's white sands.

Rangiroa, French Polynesia picture
A mesmerizing atoll in French Polynesia, where endless turquoise lagoons, vibrant coral reefs, and a laid-back island atmosphere provide the ultimate South Pacific sanctuary. As the second largest atoll in the world, this ring-shaped island is known for being a popular spot for scuba diving due to its diverse marine wildlife. Situated in French Polynesia, this tropical paradise offers many other activities such as dolphin watching, surfing, fishing or visiting the peaceful villages of Avatoru and Tiputa.

Huahine, French Polynesia

feb 12, 2028

8:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Anchor

Huahine, French Polynesia picture
This lagoon-looped island off the northwest coast of Tahiti is the place to delve into Polynesia's ancestral culture. Many legends swirl around the millennia-old marae (sacred meeting places) and archaeological sites, while a traditional dwelling now houses a museum under its vaulted bamboo ceiling. Once the home of Tahitian royalty, Huahine is impossibly green, its rich soil growing a bounty of crops: from bananas and breadfruit to more ornamental vanilla orchids. If you can bear to leave the island's knockout beaches behind, hikes through the lush countryside are rewarded with dips in cool pools fed by crashing waterfalls.

Tahiti (Papeete), French Polynesia

feb 13, 2028

arrival 6:00 AM

Tahiti (Papeete), French Polynesia picture
Fringed by emerald peaks and the turquoise waters of the South Pacific, Papeete serves as an ideal stepping stone to the wonders of the island of Tahiti. But there's plenty to do in the French Polynesian capital itself. Wander along the lively waterfront and through bustling markets to immerse yourself in the rhythms of daily Polynesian life; admire the colorful Notre Dame Cathedral, one of Papeete's last remaining examples of early colonial architecture; and pay a visit to the Robert Wan Pearl Museum for an insight into the history and cultivation of Tahitian pearls (plus the opportunity to acquire a lustrous keepsake).
