Wave goodbye to Laem Chabang, the port for Bangkok, for a closer look at Southeast Asia. Our first stop is Ko Kut, a Thai island admired for the untouched quality of its wilderness as well as sugar sands such as Ao Noi with its pretty wooden pier. We hop now to the Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc, another eye-catcher that is largely National Park but has plenty of local life to experience in the main town Duong Dong. A day at sea transports us from these sandy idylls to the bright lights of Ho Chi Minh City, where we overnight. All the enticing pleasures of a fast-growing city can be found here – museums, galleries, a culinary feast of street stalls and fine-dining restaurants, and poignant stories of wartime. Back to the ocean we go, sailing for a day to Muara in Brunei, home of the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, a perfect picture for your album with its gold dome and minarets. Kota Kinabalu on Borneo adds plenty of market life as well as rainforest action to the mix, and, after a day at sea, we cross to the Philippines to the sandy beaches of Boracay before hitting the irrepressible capital of this island state, Manila. Savor your final day sailing the ocean before arriving in one of the world’s most exciting cities, Hong Kong.

A fascinating city devoted to tradition and driven toward modernity, Bangkok has long been a traveler's paradise with its heavenly weather, welcoming hospitality, and mouth-watering cuisine - the vibrant city is world-renowned for its street food and an impressive roster of Michelin-starred restaurants. Home to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, the ornate Grand Palace, and the soaring Wat Arun temple, it's also an hour away from Ayutthaya, the 14th-century ruins of the Kingdom of Siam.

It's all about the beach on Ko Kut – some say it's the most beautiful island in Thailand. This is a place to spend the day wiggling your toes in the white powder-soft sands. But if you must insist on exploring beyond your beach towel, take a refreshing hike to the Nam Tok Khlong Chao waterfall, go kayaking through the mangroves, or there's rewarding snorkeling and scuba diving in the clear waters off these shores, too. And don't miss mingling with the locals in the fishing villages Khlong Mad Jetty and Ao Yai.

Prepare to tuck into delicious food on Phu Quoc, especially if you keep it local – blue swimming crab caught nearby, a grind of pepper grown in the fields, and a dash of what many regard as the best nuoc mam fish sauce brewed in the whole country. But this is not the only enjoyment to be found on Vietnam's largest island. It's so rich in nature that UNESCO has declared more than half of the territory a Biosphere Reserve. Travel on foot or bicycle through rainforest, bush and mangroves and you might spot macaques, silver langurs, and hornbills, and snorkel over coral gardens to witness a multicolored marine world. Plus, there's the lively main town, Duong Dong, with its renowned market, fishing villages with stilt houses in the shallows, Buddhist temples and shrines, and more than 20 fabulous beaches. You could even head to the amusement park on nearby Pineapple Island, or Sunset Town, an impressive replica of an old Italian village with plenty of entertainment laid on.
