Although in ruins today, its former grandeur is still evident. Visit remnanats of houses, tombs, a palace, and a splendid Mosque. Wandering around the ruins and listening to the guide, it is easy to picture what life was like when the city was thriving, trading frankincense and Arabian horses. Then, journey to the ruined city of Samhuram. Dating from 100 BC, the city is near the Khawr Rawri lagoon. Given its location, it is no wonder that Samhuram was a bustling trading port for the incense trade. The remains of what is known as Queen Sheba&rsquo;s Palace stand on a small hill overlooking the Khawr Rawri. Queen Sheba regularly traveled to Dhofar for frankincense and built the Palace to serve as a stopping place on her route and store her prized frankincense before it was shipped to Yemen. Continue to Wadi Darbat, characterized by its virgin nature and blessed with thick botanical cover.&nbsp;Enjoy a fresh coconut water in this beautiful setting before rejoining your motor coach for the return drive to your ship.

You will soon reach the ruins of Ubar, referred to in classical works as the Atlantis of the Sands, where you can see some of the excavations currently underway. It&#39;s believed that the city existed from about 2800 BC to 300 AD. Situated at the crossroads of various transport routes, Ubar was an important trading post in ancient Arabia.&nbsp; Suddenly, however, the city disappeared. Tangible evidence of its existence remained elusive until the 1990s when NASA&#39;s remote sensing equipment revealed caravan tracks converging on a single spot in the desert. Excavation began in earnest; efforts rewarded by discoveries of pottery, frankincense burners, and remains of a fortress. Underneath the fortress is a giant limestone cavern, whose roof may have collapsed, possibly explaining the sudden destruction of this once thriving city.&nbsp; Contemplate the theory of Ubar&#39;s demise over a local packed lunch. Then, it will be time to rejoin your 4x4 and return to your ship.

Between 1600 BC and 1200 BC, a city known as Dhufa grew and flourished, surrounded by water, and protected by a massive wall complete with gates and turrets. Today, the ruins attest to the city&rsquo;s former grandeur. There is evidence of houses, tombs, a palace, and a splendid Mosque. As you investigate the ruins and hear commentary from a local expert, you might picture what life was like during the days when the city hosted a thriving trade of frankincense and Arabian horses. Following your exploration of the Al Balid ruins, journey to the ruined city of Samhuram for a visit to the site. Dating to 100 BC, the city is situated near Khawr Rawri lagoon. Given its location, perhaps it is no wonder that Samhuram was a bustling trading port for the incense trade. The remains of what is known as Queen Sheba&rsquo;s Palace stands on a small hill overlooking the Khawr Rawri. Queen Sheba regularly traveled to Dhofar for frankincense and had the Palace built not only to serve as a stopping place on her route, but to store her prized Frankincense before it is shipped to Yemen. Continue to Wadi Darbat, characterized by its virgin nature and blessed with thick botanical cover. Besides the wadi has a natural spring along with several caves. The place is a perfect spot to spend a day and relax feeding fish in a lake. Enjoy sumptuous buffet lunch at Salalah Rotana Resort, rejoin your motor coach and return to your ship.

By 4x4 vehicles you&rsquo;ll travel to the east of Salalah to the old town of Taqa, continue the drive into the spectacular Wadi Darbat and take a relaxing stroll along the Wadi bed which is home to herds of camels, goats, cattle and donkeys. This is an area of great beauty with lakes and lush green vegetation creating a natural paradise. Your next stop is at the Ain Hamran, a spectacular location in which age-old trees and shrubs have become nesting places for several species of birds throughout the year. You&rsquo;ll proceed to the natural springs at Ain Razat to take in the breathtaking views of the cave face and landscape by the springs, where a variety of bird species and plants can be found.
