While it might sound like hyperbole, the southernmost tip of Africa truly is one of the most stunning parts of the world with spectacular scenery, sweeping beaches, two oceans, and enough attractions to make even the most jaded of traveler blissfully happy. The city sits at the foot of Table Mountain which dominates the entire region. Part of a national park, the mountain features several hiking trails and even cable cars to take you to the summit where an unforgettable view awaits. If you prefer to keepcloser to the sea, then head to the V&amp;A Waterfront. Named after England’s Queen Victoria and her son, Prince Alfred, the waterfront is where you`ll find lots of shops, a food and craft market featuring lots of local good, and even an aquarium.

Depart the quayside for your city tour of Cape Town, your first stop will be at the bottom of BoKaap which is situated at the foot of Signal Hill. Here you will have time to take some pictures of the colourful Cape Malay houses. BoKaap&rsquo;s origins date back to 1760s where these houses were leased to slaves, it was formerly known at the Malay Quarter. After your visit to BoKaap you will take a short drive to the Company Gardens, the oldest garden in South Africa. Established in 1652 by Jan van Riebeeck, it was originally used as a vegetable garden to supply fresh produce to passing ships. Located within the gardens are the red-bricked House of Parliament, the South African National Gallery, the Jewish Museum and the Great Synagogue. After your stroll through the Company Gardens you will reboard your coach and drive to Buitenkant street. Your next stop will be the Old Granary Building to visit the Truth to Power Exhibition. This new and exciting permanent exhibition explores the life of Desmond Tutu and The Churches in the struggle against apartheid. After your educational visit you will drive past the Cape Town City Hall for a photostop from the coach on your way back to the harbour.

Embark on a tour of Cape Town&#39;s highlights, starting with the colorful BoKaap neighborhood. Explore the historic Company Gardens, then visit the Truth to Power Exhibition at the Old Granary Building. Snap photos of the Cape Town City Hall before returning to the harbor.&nbsp;

Introduction to Cape Town

No visit to Cape Town is complete without a trip up Table Mountain, the city&rsquo;s most celebrated landmark. Depart from the quayside and travel up Kloof Nek, the saddle between Table Mountain and Lions Head, to the lower cableway station. Ascend from the Valley Station (363 m) to the Mountain Station (1 060 m) in a Swiss engineered Rotair cable car. The journey from the base to the summit takes just under 4 minutes and one can enjoy spectacular views, as the floor of the car rotates 360 degrees during the ascent and descent. Table Mountain gets her name from the flat topped central massif of the mountain, which, viewed from the city, is surrounded by Devil&rsquo;s Peak on the left, Lion&rsquo;s Head on the right and Signal Hill in the foreground. They form a sort of amphitheater that encloses the city centre and some of the older suburbs. Other earlier suburbs are on either side of the chain of mountains, which run like a spine through the Cape Peninsula, from Table Mountain to Cape Point &ndash; the cape from which Cape Town gets its name. From the summit, the natural protected area stretching from Signal Hill to Cape Point has been managed under the custodianship of the National Parks Board. This area has one of the highest concentrations of endemic plant and animal species in any area of its size, containing a staggering 2 285 plant species &ndash; more than the entire U.K. Return to the quayside to join the ship.

Ascend Table Mountain by cable car and enjoy the magnificent views from the summit.&nbsp;

Table Mountain

Depart the quayside and enjoy a scenic drive along the Atlantic coast, passing through Sea Point, Bantry Bay, Clifton and Camps Bay. Stop at Maiden&rsquo;s Cove to enjoy the magnificent views onto Camps Bay beach and the Twelve Apostles, before continuing along the coastal road, past the upmarket suburb of Llandudno and on towards the fishing village of Hout Bay.&nbsp; From here you will travel along one of the world&rsquo;s most spectacular routes, Chapman&rsquo;s Peak Drive, with its numerous look out points, which offer magnificent views over the ocean towards Hout Bay&amp; the Sentinel. Pass the pristine white sands of Noordhoek Beach, before continuing over the scenic Ou Kaapse Weg (Old Cape Road), taking in the views over the southern Peninsula, Cape Flats and False Bay. Head back to the city via the M3 motorway, passing the University of Cape Town, Rhodes Memorial, Mostert&rsquo;s Mill and the famous Groote Schuur Hospital en-route.

Embark on a scenic coastal drive along the Atlantic coast, passing through stunning views including the Twelve Apostles. Journey along Chapman&rsquo;s Peak Drive, offering breathtaking vistas of Hout Bay and the Sentinel. Explore Noordhoek Beach and enjoy panoramic views from Ou Kaapse Weg.&nbsp;

Chapman&#39;s Peak & Ou Kaapse Weg Scenic Drive

Depart from Cape Town harbour and travel towards Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, skirting the slopes of Devil&#39;s Peak en-route. One of the world&#39;s most famous Botanical Gardens, Kirstenbosch Gardens is spread over 560 ha on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain and contains over 8,500 species of indigenous plants. Take a leisurely stroll through these beautiful surroundings.&nbsp;There will also be some time at leisure available for browsing in the well-stocked curio shop. From Kirstenbosch, travel through the prestigious suburbs of Bishopscourt and Constantia into the region where South Africa&#39;s wine industry began over 3 centuries ago.&nbsp;Enjoy a formal wine tasting and chocolate pairing at one of the local wine estates in Constantia.&nbsp; Return to the quayside, travelling over Constantia Nek to Hout Bay, before continuing through the Atlantic seaboard suburbs of Camps Bay, Clifton &amp; Bantry Bay en-route.

Depart from Cape Town harbor to Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden. Explore over 8,500 indigenous plant species and enjoy leisure time. Then, experience wine tasting and chocolate pairing in Constantia. Return via scenic routes to the quayside.&nbsp;

Kirstenbosch & Constantia Winelands

Transfer to helipad at the Waterfront and after a short briefing board the helicopter for take-off.&nbsp; In your 25-minute flight follow the Atlantic route, view the majesty of the Twelve Apostles, the white sands of Clifton, the wreck off Llandudno and the Republic of Hout Bay with the magnificent seal island. Follow the heart stopping curves of the Chapman&rsquo;s Peak highway, built by Italian prisoners during World War II. Fly over long lagoon laced stretches of Noordhoek Beach. Take the inland route through Sun Valley to Fish Hoek, along Muizenberg, past the lush Constantia Valley and Groot Constantia, over Table Mountain and the City Bowl and back to the V&amp;A Waterfront. &nbsp;

Cape Town Helicopter Flightseeing

Depart the quayside and drive to Simons Town, your first stop will be Boulders Beach to visit the African penguin colony. African Penguins used to be known as jackass penguins because of their distinctive braying and are the only penguins found on the African continent. Here you will have a one-hour tour of Boulder&rsquo;s Penguins, viewing nesting grounds and learning about the colony. After your visit with the Penguins, you will take a short drive to Kalk Bay a picturesque harbour town. Similar to Simons Town it has gorgeous historical buildings, some dating back to 1870s. Fishing was the mainstay of Kalk Bay and is still a favourite amongst locals to buy your fresh fish when the boats come in. Kalk Bay has an array of boutique shops selling local arts and crafts, situated along the coast it is a must see for any visitor. After your free time exploring this quaint town, you will board your coach and head back to Cape Town harbour to meet your ship.

Visit Boulders Beach to see the African penguin colony, and spend time at leisure at Kalk Bay, a picturesque harbour town.

Boulders Beach Penguins & Kalk Bay at Leisure

Explore the fascinating sites of southern Africa during this full day orientation tour along the Cape Peninsula to Cape Point. Depart the quayside for the scenic drive to Cape Point Nature Reserve. En route, you will pass through the suburbs of Green Point and Sea Point to Camps Bay. You will then continue along the Atlantic seaboard towards Hout Bay, a small fishing village. From Hout Bay, you will pass by Chapman&#39;s Peak Drive (provided the road is open), and proceed through the seaside residential suburb of Scarborough en-route to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. It is here that the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, along with their diverse ecosystems, are thought to converge. This expansive nature reserve occupies 19,150 acres of indigenous flora and fauna. Cape Point and its dramatic sea cliffs, among South Africa&#39;s highest are main attractions of the reserve.&nbsp; Upon arrival, you will ride the funicular railway to the top of Cape Point (provided it&rsquo;s in operation), and take in breathtaking views and photo opportunities. After lunch at a local restaurant, a visit will be made to the African penguin colony at Boulders Beach, followed by a drive through the naval base of Simon&rsquo;s Town to Fish Hoek. From here, you will continue on to the colorful fishing harbor of Kalk Bay before turning on to Boyes Drive, which offers magnificent views of Muizenberg and False Bay. Continue with your return drive to the quayside. En route, you will pass by the University of Cape Town, Rhodes Memorial, Mostert&#39;s Mill and famous Groote Schuur Hospital.

Leaving the Franschhoek region you will then drive to Stellenbosch, a university town and heart of the winelands. After your Stellenbosch orientation tour, you will head back to Cape Town harbor.&nbsp;

Cape Winelands

For over four centuries, Robben Island has been a place of punishment for exiles and prisoners as well as a place of confinement for lepers, lunatics and the sick. Since 1960, it has become synonymous with the political struggle against apartheid in South Africa. Political prisoners of the past have included Nelson Mandela and poet Dennis Brutus. The last political prisoners were released in 1991 and on 01 January 1997, the Robben Island Museum opened its doors to the public, with quite a number of the former political prisoners becoming island guides. In 1999, Robben Island was declared a Word Heritage Site. Robben Island is an outcrop of rock formed by geological processes extending millions of years ago.&nbsp; Rising and falling sea levels have changed the appearance of the island periodically. Over the past 700,000 years, there have been 12 periods of lower sea levels during which the island has been linked to the mainland. Except for the administrative buildings and prison infrastructure, the island is primarily sand covered with somewhat limited vegetation.&nbsp; It is home to penguins, seals, chameleons, lizards, snakes, seabirds and a variety of buck. Robben Island hosts about 23 mammals and 132 bird species including the African penguin. Robben Island hosts the third largest colony of African Penguins. Depart on foot from the ship to the ferry terminal, located at the Nelson Mandela Gateway. After browsing through the museum, embark the ferry, which will transfer you across Table Bay to Robben Island (approximately 30 minutes ride). Upon arrival at the island, board a bus for a 45-minute orientation tour.&nbsp; Bypass the old leper colony, a Muslim shrine and a shipwreck. Also visit the lime quarry, where the former President&#39;s eyes were damaged permanently, and where personalities in the struggle were put to back breaking labor. Thereafter, join a guided walking tour through the maximum-security block, led by a former political prisoner. A visit to Nelson Mandela&#39;s former cell is also included. After your 2 hour visit to the island, return to the mainland by ferry, and then back to the ship by foot.

Robben Island is best known as the site of a maximum security prison where Nelson Mandela and other political prisoners were incarcerated during apartheid. Today a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the island has a long and fascinating history, and it is now home to a variety of attractions.&nbsp; From Robben Island, you can get unparalleled views of Cape Town&rsquo;s skyline and Table Mountain and there are also plenty of opportunities to see wildlife, including penguins, seals, and endemic bird.

Robben Island

Situated on the edge of the Namib desert, north of the Tropic of Capricorn in the Kuiseb River delta, Walvis Bay is one of Africa's most exciting destinations. It has a history spanning centuries - it was first “discovered” by the explorer Bartholomeus Diaz in 1487, the Cape Dutch however "founded" it in 1793 and 1840, Great Britain annexed Walvis Bay and a small area surrounding the territory to ensure the safe passage of British ships around the Cape. The many layers of colonial influence have of course left their mark, and a short stroll around the city will see you looking at remnants of the town's history in the facades of old trading posts, maritime-related structures, and charming cottages. The real showstoppers, however, are the colossal dunes that beckons adventurers to conquer their lofty heights. For those who climb the towering mountains of sand, your efforts will not be in vain: the desert panorama spreads before you when you reach the summit, leaving you both literally and metaphorically breathless. But Walvis Bay's allure doesn't stop there. Its lagoon shimmers with a flamboyance of flamingos, the salt pans glisten like scattered diamonds and playful dolphins dance in the Atlantic's embrace. Take a boat trip to view the wildlife in its natural habitat.

Take a short drive from the harbour to the jetty, where you will board a boat for a 3-hour cruise on the Walvis Bay lagoon. The water here is usually very calm and abundant with bird and marine life.&nbsp; The boat departs the jetty and cruises around the lagoon and harbour area, from here, cut across the lagoon to the moored Russian trawlers and the oyster lines. Inquisitive seals will swim up to the boats for something to eat.&nbsp; Continue to Pelican Point, where a large seal colony and schools of dolphins, which swim alongside the boats, provide entertainment. Dolphins sighted are the Heavy side and Bottlenose.&nbsp; For the bird lovers, apart from seeing many flamingos when in season, pelicans and cormorants, there are also common sightings of the White Chinned Petrel, Wilson&rsquo;s Storm Petrel, Cape Gannet, Black Oystercatcher, and more. To round off the trip, sparkling wine, beer, soft drinks and finger snacks are served during the cruise.&nbsp; On arrival at the jetty, re-embark the coaches, which will transfer you back to the quayside.&nbsp;

Meet your driver/guide at the quayside and depart towards Sandwich Harbour. A World Heritage site many have heard of but very few have ever visited. The tour takes you through various interesting sceneries including the Walvis Bay lagoon, which is a Ramsar protected Wetland, the Walvis Salt Works, a drive close to the beach to see the mighty Atlantic Ocean and an exhilarating 4x4 dune drive over giant sand dunes that run straight into the ocean.&nbsp; Occasional animal life might be observed, but since it is a Desert Landscape it is an absolute bonus to run into the Black backed Jackal, Oryx, Springbuck and some Ostrich.&nbsp; Round off the dune drive by stopping atop Lookout Dune and enjoying a light finger food lunch before returning to quayside.&nbsp;

Meet your driver quayside, before embarking towards Swakopmund Airstrip to board your 5-seater Cessna airplane. From Swakopmund Airport we fly low-level over the Kuiseb Canyon and Tsondabvlei, the only known breeding area for the Lappet Face Vulture in southern Namibia, towards the highest shifting sand dunes in the world at Sossusvlei. From there we pass over the Diamond Restricted area where you will still find three old diamond camps before we reach Conception Bay. After passing colonies of Cape fur seals, we see shipwrecks along the coast of the Eduard Bohlen (1909) 500m from the shore and the Shawnee (1976). We pass the long wall (Namib dunes) before reaching Sandwich Harbour, a wetland of international importance and protected by the Ramsar Convention. We pass the coastal salt mines south of Walvis Bay, attracting thousands of birds. Walvis Bay, Namibia&rsquo;s major harbour town is our next destination. Midway between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, we pass the Langstrand Holiday Resort and the Dolphin Park Resort on our way back to Swakopmund. Return to quayside via the costal road.&nbsp;

Depart the pier towards the Walvis Bay Lagoon and stop to view and photograph the many bird species that can be found here. Next depart for the scenic drive along the coastal road to Swakopmund, located 19 miles north of Walvis Bay at the mouth of the Swakop River.&nbsp; En route, you will take in magnificent views of sand dunes on one side, and the Atlantic Ocean on the other.&nbsp; Upon arrival, you will take a tour of this seaside resort, which resembles a Bavarian village. Along the way, you will see Swakopmund&#39;s Colonial past reflected in the early-19th-century Art Nouveau architecture; many of the charming buildings found here have been declared National Monuments. You will also see the Magistrate&#39;s Court, or Keiserliches Bezirksgericht, Lutheran Church and old Railway Station building, which is now the main reception area of the Swakopmund Hotel.&nbsp; Once in Swakopmund, visit the famous Kristal Galerie in the center of town. Afterwards visit the Swakopmund on the beachfront promenade known as the Mole.&nbsp; Next, use your free time to explore Swakopmund independently. Walk along the Mole, the city&rsquo;s former seawall that today is home to a sheltered beach, restaurants, shops, and parks. Visit the Brauhaus Arcade that has plenty of local shops to browse for the perfect souvenir.&nbsp; You will then return to Walvis Bay via the Atlantic Ocean Road.&nbsp;

Meet you driver quayside and depart Walvis Bay harbour towards the quaint marina.&nbsp; The most amazing experience combining boat, kayak, and 4x4! Start with a transfer by boat to Pelican Point Peninsula. On the way you&rsquo;ll be welcomed by pelicans soaring next to your speedboat and curious Cape fur seals swimming alongside.&nbsp; Land on an empty beach at Pelican Point with your waiting guides, join the seals and wildlife from your 2-person kayak. Meet your driver/guide quayside, a few minutes from the port we stop at the Walvis Bay lagoon. This protected wetland is home to many flamingos, and we take a couple of minutes to enjoy their beauty.&nbsp; Next, we stop at the coastal dune belt to learn about the dunes, also a great photo opportunity.&nbsp; The next stop is Swakopmund. A colourful and friendly little town with many historic buildings that date back to the early colonial era.
