President's Excursion - New for 2018 - This Crystal Adventures excursion MUST be pre-reserved.

From the pier, make the scenic motor-coach journey through Barcelona, viewing the city’s main sights while your guide introduces you to Catalonia’s history and traditions.

Upon arrival at Hospital de Sant Pau, guests feast their eyes on a sweeping property comprised of 16 pavilions, underground tunnels and luscious gardens resting behind its imposing main building. Built between 1901 and 1930 on the site of a medieval hospital, Hospital de Sant Pau is a celebrated achievement by Catalan architect Domènech i Montaner, who envisioned the hospital to heal both the body and the spirit. And indeed, it does, with its fanciful Art Nouveau design grounded in Gothic vernacular. A grand, church-like edifice, ornate spires, arched windows, colorful tiled domes and adornments of mosaic art create something of an architectural revelation, not just in hospital design, but in all design.

Hospital de Sant Pau operated as a fully functioning hospital until 2009, the same year it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After undergoing extensive restoration, the complex reopened as a museum and cultural center in 2014.

On your arrival, make your way through the main entrance, where you will be welcomed by your host, Mr. Tom Wolber and his wife, Sharon. You will be escorted with a profession guide who will begin a leisurely paced, 45-minute guided exploration to discover the tunnels, halls, and underground rooms explaining the history and secrets that this historical building holds. Also view courtyards and flowers, mosaics and arches, water features and palm trees. These whimsical elements run counter to the sterile environment of conventional hospitals, which was the intention of Montaner’s groundbreaking design.

After the tour, proceed to the gardens where you will enjoy tapas service, traditional Spanish music complete with bailoras (flamenco dancers) In the backdrop, enjoy a picturesque setting with an incredible view of some of the highlights of Barcelona including the iconic Sagrada Familia.

A magical evening drawing to a close, rejoin your motor coach and return to your Crystal ship.
