This Christmas cruise around the Indian Ocean embarks in Cape Town then ventures to Mossel Bay, at the western end of South Africa`s Garden Route. There will be plenty to keep you amused onboard for the following sea day, before reaching East London wildlife-rich savannas, best seen on an Abercrombie Kent safari tour. Sail to Madagascar via two sea days, disembarking in little-visited Taolagnaro, a small town on the island`s southeastern tip almost entirely circled by beaches. Ring in 2025 on your way to the island of La Reunion, followed by Mauritius with its dreamy powder sands lapped by clear blue waters. Your journey ends in the Seychelles, at its largest island, Mahe.

Settled by 17th-century French traders, the port town of Taolanaro, or “Fort Dauphin”, is on a small mountain-backed, beach-fringed peninsula on the southeastern tip of this wild and wonderful island. It's a fittingly beautiful introduction to a unique country, home to more than 100 species of lemur, ancient baobab trees, dense rainforest, red sand desert, and waters offering outstanding diving opportunities. Fort Dauphin Museum explores French colonial influence on local Malagasy culture. Nearby, in the island's spiny forest, Verreaux's sifakas lemur make their dancing leaps between the spiked trees, and hikers can explore the tropical trails of UNESCO-listed Andohahela National Park.
