Originally settled by the Quitu tribe in the first millennium, Quito was eventually integrated into the Inca Empire before being destroyed and re-founded in 1534 by Spanish Conquistador Sebastian de Benalcazar. In 1809, Quito established the first self-governing city in the colonies and the liberator Simon Bolivar led the country as part of the Republic of Greater Colombia until 1830, when the Republic of Ecuador announced its independence. The city is beautifully situated in an Andean valley at 9,350 feet, making it the 2nd highest capital city in the world.

Morning transfer from Manta Port to Quito via Manta Airport. Afternoon arrival at Hacienda La Compañía, a stunning rose plantation from the Jesuit order with historical roots. Explore the estate, learn about Ecuadorian rose cultivation, and even create your bouquet before transferring to Hacienda Zuleta, a 17th-century working farm with breathtaking mountain views. Early risers can begin their day with a wildlife-filled sunrise walk to observe the farm’s morning rituals. After a hearty breakfast, take a guided tour of the renowned cheese factory, then explore the 4,000-acre estate by bike, on foot, or horseback. After a lunch of freshly caught trout, there is an optional excursion to an embroidery workshop to meet members of the Zuleta community, then a carriage ride through the eucalyptus alley and a visit to the village library, maybe even helping local children with their homework. Enjoy a farewell bonfire in the evening.
