SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA

SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA, CHILE

Drive to the small desert town of San Pedro de Atacama and check into Noi Casa Atacama, a gorgeous sustainable retreat where the low-rise rooms are each decorated with native art and has its own private terrace. After lunch, visit a 3,000-year-old village that has been miraculously preserved by being buried in sand. Perhaps go for an afternoon stroll (if you're peckish, the empanadas at Emporio Andino are legendary) or simply stay put, relaxing by the inviting pool or in the spa.

At an altitude of 4,300 metres, the intense blue of the lagoons makes for a unique contrast to the mountain backdrop.
