Kickstart a trip to The Last Frontier with an overnight stay in Anchorage. After checking into Hotel Captain Cook (or similar), get out and explore the city – perhaps visit The Anchorage Museum or do a spot of shopping for native art and souvenirs.

Drive to the charming town of Talkeetna, then take a picture-postcard train ride to Denali. The unique two-storey dome-roof carriages have a dining room on the lower level and an outdoor viewing platform above. Home for the next two nights is the Grande Denali Lodge (or similar).

Head into the heart of the Denali National Park on the Tundra Wilderness Tour, which takes in the Murie Cabin where conservationist Adolf Murie spent summers in the 1950s conducting field research. Along the way, spot wildlife such as bear, moose, caribou and Dali sheep.

TALKEETNA

Return to Talkeetna for the Alaska Sled Dog experience, which combines learning about sled dog racing from an Iditarod champion (an annual long-distance race) with a visit to a kennel. Afterwards, taste craft beer and eat lunch at the Denali Brewing Company. Check into the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge (or similar).

TALKEENTA/ SEWARD
SEWARD (ANCHORAGE, ALASKA), UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Centre, a sanctuary which looks after injured and orphaned animals, from reindeer and elk to coyotes and wolves. From here, transfer to Seward, where Crystal Serenity is docked.
