Join this half-day outing for a chance to discover the beauty and history of the uninhabited island of Spinaloga.

Departing the pier aboard your air-conditioned motor coach, enjoy the 45-minute journey to the village of Plaka, where you will board a small boat for the brief cruise to the island.  Located at the entrance of the Bay of Elounda, Spinaloga Island features an Italian fortress carved out of the island’s flank. The fortress, now abandoned, once controlled the entrance into the bay and was one of the last to fall to Ottoman rule. During the first half of the 20th century, the island served as a leper colony. Today, it is a popular day-trip destination, with a rugged beauty that appeals to visitors and a history that ignites the imagination.

A guided introduction to the island will offer some insights into its storied past. Afterward, you will return to Plaka, where you will enjoy Greek snacks and a glass of raki before making your way back to Aghios Nikolaos.
