Belgrade Kayak Safari
Discover the many facets of Belgrade from the unique perspective of your kayak as you navigate the largest rivers in Serbia, the Sava and the Danube.
Age12 & above
After approximately two hours of kayak exploration, arrive at The Great War Island, located at the confluence of Sava and Danube rivers. It has a triangular shape and covers an area of 1.3 square miles. Its low, marshy profile means that it is often flooded by the Danube, but it gained importance – and its militant name – due to its strategic value as a wartime viewpoint. One intriguing point of interest on the island is the canal of Veliki Galijas. Over time, the canal has been cut off from the Danube and effectively turned into a lake, and the primary bird and fish spawning area on the island. Currently some two-thirds of the island are used as a nature preserve for 196 bird species, many of which are endangered.
Lido Beach is located on the northern tip of the island, beckoning you to take a break from paddling and enjoy some refreshments on the sand and free time in the sunshine. You will then board your motor coach and return to your Crystal ship.
