Take leave of Basel for a luxe road trip through rural Germany’s legendary Black Forest landscape. Ancient home of woods so dense and deep the Romans described them as "black," the region remains an area of unrivaled natural beauty and thick forests of silver fir and spruce.

After about 45 minutes' drive, your guide will lead you on a refreshing nature hike where you'll learn about the flora, fauna and terrain that make up the Black Forest ecosystem. Hiking trails and tracks abound here; some 14,000 miles of them crisscross the region – maintained by proud German volunteers.

Following the walk, you'll stop by a local country inn where the owner will escort you on a tour of the adjoining farm, share insights on what life was like here in bygone days, and – best of all – serve some local snacks. Offerings vary; could be fresh-baked Black Forest Cake, or perhaps a family style tasting platter of Black Forest ham, cheese and homemade bread.

Take some free time to stroll the grounds and soak up the scenery, then reboard the coach for a pleasant drive back to the Rhine and your Crystal ship.

Important Notes:
During the nature trek, distances walked are not great and pace is comfortable. Guests should, however, wear suitable footwear and be aware of possible uneven terrain along hiking paths.
