The cobbled heart of Basel is a medieval, multicultural melting pot – bubbling with architecturally-significant buildings, lively squares and intriguing history. After a brief coach transfer from the port, your city orientation starts with a 90-minute guided walk through atmospheric Old Town.

Along the way, you'll encounter many of Basel's most impressive sights – from the trademark patterned spires and elaborately sculpted facades of Basel Minster cathedral, to the whimsically kinetic modern decorations of the Tinguely Fountain.

Wander along narrow streets, several of which open dramatically onto sizable squares like the Marktplatz – where the eye-catching Rathaus (city hall) stands guard, its red stone facades awash in gilding, painted frescoes, and more than a few gargoyles.

Once the structured walk is done, you'll have 90 minutes of free-range exploring time on your own before it's time to rejoin your guide for the ride back to the Rhine – and the comforts of your Crystal ship.

Important Notes:
This leisurely excursion is rated as "easy," though its modest amount of walking does involve cobbled streets and some occasional steps. Comfortable footwear is called for.
