Crystal Voluntourism Adventures: The Rescue & Rehabilitation of Marine Animals
As part of Crystal’s “You Care. We Care.” program, we are pleased to offer this complimentary, volunteer-focused excursion that takes you to the Rehabilitation Center, a facility dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of endangered marine animals. Here, you will become acquainted with the Center’s important work and participate in a rescue drill of a dolphin or other sea fauna.Complimentary
DurationApproximately 5 hours
Your 30-minute transfer from the pier brings you to the Rehabilitation Center. Located in the natural area of Prat de Llobregat, the Center is designed to welcome the thousands of visitors who are interested in volunteer and research efforts that support the marine ecosystem and help endangered marine animals.
Your visit will consist of three entertaining and educational components. First, you will enjoy a 30-minute general introduction to the site, with a chance to gain insights into the issues facing marine biodiversity and the causes of the decline of marine animals and their habitats.
A state-of-the-art multimedia presentation will enhance your experience and further inform you about the marine environment, while visits to the clinic where injured animals are treated and to the research area will deepen your appreciation for the Center’s commitment to the welfare of the ocean and its creatures.
Next, you will join a 50-minute theoretical training on the rescue of a dolphin stranded on the beach.
Then, put the theory to work with a practice session, during which you will participate in a rescue drill of a dolphin or other marine animal. Under the guidance of a Center specialist, you will see how to manage the floating stretcher, learn how to handle the animal and be introduced to the support swimming pool.
Concluding your unique Crystal Voluntourism Adventure, return to your Crystal ship with a better understanding of Mediterranean marine species and the people—like you—who care deeply about their wellbeing.
