Bamberg boasts one of the most well-preserved cityscapes of medieval architecture in the world, whose layout and historic core have earned the town the coveted recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. So influential is the city’s centuries-old architecture and planning method that it greatly shaped the surrounding regions of Germany and Hungary from the 12th century onward, even becoming the centre of the Enlightenment in the 18th century.

During your two-hour walking tour of the Bamberg, you’ll understand how its authentic preservation of its treasures is still profoundly important to modern life. Stroll amongst the charming houses lining the cobbled streets and see the unique Town Hall, which is located halfway across the “Obere Bruke Bridge”. Visit Bamberg’s Cathedral which has the tombs of Emperor Henry II and Pope Clement II and see “Klein-Venedig” (Little Venice), a colony of picturesque fishermen’s houses from the 19th century alongside of the River Regnitz.

After your walk through the city, you’ll enjoy a taste of traditions past with Bamberg’s smoke beer. This throwback concoction has a dark color, and a smoky, almost fiery flavor. While this style of beer used to be common in the city, its creation has become somewhat of a specialty. Following this new perspective on a medieval town, you’ll board your motor coach and return to your Crystal ship.
