This excursion lets you become acquainted with the beautiful island of Bali and features a visit to the Royal Temple of Mengwi, also known as Pura Taman Ayun.
Leaving the pier, travel north, passing through small villages and picturesque rice terraces as your guide explains the everyday life of the local people.
After a journey of approximately one hour and 30 minutes, arrive at the vast temple complex of Pura Taman Ayun. Translating to “beautiful garden,” Pura Taman Ayun is indeed lovely. The complex, the second largest in Bali, was built in 1634 by the Raja of Mengwi and is considered one of Bali’s most attractive. During your visit, you will appreciate its classic design that stands as testimony to the former grandeur of the Mengwi kingdom, highlighted by a moat that encloses several courtyards and shrines boasting ornate pillars and beautifully carved doors.
Next, wend your way through the lush countryside dotted with rice fields until you reach your next destination, the village of Baha. With most of the inhabitants being farmers, this village offers a glimpse of the traditional way of life here in Bali.
Another window onto the Balinese landscape and culture is the village of Ayunan, where you will have a chance to take picture-perfect photos of the striking rice terraces that follow the natural contours of the hills. These Balinese rice terraces have a history dating back over 2,000 years, when hard-working farmers with primitive hand tools began carving the stepped terraces out of the hillsides. Through the generations, these terraces have been meticulously extended and maintained out of necessity, as rice is the staple food of the islanders.
Speaking of food, during today’s outing, soft drinks and a snack will be offered on board your motor coach.
From Ayunan, return to your Crystal ship with a journey of approximately 90 minutes.
Guests should be aware that this excursion involves approximately two-and-a-half hours of travel by motor coach, including a 90-minute drive from Ayunan back to the pier; however, the fascinating sights included in this excursion are its main focus and more than compensate for the length of the journey. It is recommended that guests dress in casual, lightweight clothing and wear flat, comfortable shoes. Guests should also bring along a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and an umbrella. The order of sights visited may vary. This Crystal Adventures excursion MUST be pre-reserved.
