Begin your guided walk at Place La Salle, situated in Baie-Comeau’s heritage area. This appealing commercial hub is replete with sites of historical and cultural interest, including specialty food shops, souvenir stores and fine restaurants.

Enjoy a peek into the city’s thriving art scene with a visit to the gallery of award-winning artist, Claude Bonneau. Born in Quebec in 1958, Bonneau is known for his whimsical and colorful paintings depicting musicians and dancers in evocative town and garden settings. His gallery is much like a museum, with his vibrant paintings sharing space with beautiful antiques.

Following your gallery experience, visit two of Baie-Comeau’s landmark churches, St. Amélie’s and St. Andrew Anglican. St. Amélie’s showcases unique architectural and artistic elements such as pink granite quarried from Quebec’s North Shore, large frescoes, 30 stained glass windows representing characters from the Bible, and the magnificent Casavant organ. At the St. Andrew Anglican Church, which dates to 1937, you will appreciate architecture in the Tudor style, with wonderful oak trim and lovely stained glass windows.

Before returning to the pier, enjoy yet another excursion highlight, a visit to the Baie-Comeau’s famous hotel, Manoir Baie-Comeau. Built by town founder Robert Rutherford McCormick in 1937, the sumptuous manor was destroyed by fire in 1965. The Quebec North Shore & Labrador (QNS&L) paper company rebuilt the manor on the same site, using stone instead of wood. In 2004, the structure was restored.

Today, the estate serves as a hotel with all the charm of an old French colonial manor. Most of its spaces, including the dining room, terrace and gardens, open onto spectacular views of the St. Lawrence River.

Pause at the hotel to enjoy tea with cakes and to savor the beautiful setting before returning to the pier and your Crystal ship.
