Site Running: 14K ‘Round the Bays
Lace up your running shoes for this unique excursion, joining an experienced guide for a 14K jog along Auckland’s renowned waterfront. For active guests ranging from recreational joggers to diehard marathoners, this run will create lasting impressions of a beautiful city.
DurationApproximately 3 hours
Accompanied by a local fitness guide and onboard fitness staff, meet at the pier to begin your run.
Auckland has a proud tradition of jogging, which started in the 1960s with the annual “Around the Bays” run that draws up to 100,000 participants. Today, you will jog a section of this iconic route, enjoying the fresh air and captivating views along the way.
Your local personal guide will lead you down Quay Street and onto Tamaki Drive. Pass Orakei and Kohimarama beaches and head to Mission Bay, one of Auckland’s most popular beaches with numerous cafés and restaurants. Adding to the enjoyment of your run are the Pohutukawa trees that line much of the jogging route. With its wide canopy and crimson, bottle brush-type flower, the tree has become a part of Kiwi Christmas time tradition and a perennial symbol of New Zealand.
Look up to Bastion Point, where Auckland’s main Maori tribe, the Ngati Whatua, is based before making a short detour to the Savage Memorial Lookout for a chance to admire spectacular views across the Waitemata Harbour to Rangitoto Island and back to the Auckland city skyline.
Water and healthy refreshments will be provided en route to ensure you stay hydrated and energized.
Return to the pier invigorated by your 14K jog and inspired by Auckland’s stunning setting.
