The Flavors of Athens
Join this pleasant, guided walk for a chance to visit local haunts and taste some of the unique foods and beverages for which Greece is known.
DurationApproximately 3-31/2 hours
Begin your walk in the center of Athens after an approximately 30-minute transfer from the pier.
The first stop of your walking experience will be to one of the city’s oldest pastry shops, where you will taste loukoumades, a traditional delicacy made from fried dough and sweetened with honey and cinnamon.
Continuing your stroll, pay a call to the town’s oldest bakery to taste its cruller, a wheel-shaped bread that is a common breakfast-time offering at the city’s outdoor markets. Speaking of markets, next visit the central open-air market of Athens, a lively and colorful place overflowing with local products renowned as much for their quality as for their variety.
Of course, no introduction to the tastes of Athens would be complete without a sampling of the famous Greek liquor called ouzo. At a traditional liquor store, you will enjoy the tasty beverage, along with typical Greek small dishes, similar to tapas, known as mezedes.
Savor gyros wrapped in pita bread called souvlaki at the popular Monastiraki Square before returning by foot to your minivan, which will convey you to the pier.
