Nazareth & the Sea of Galilee
Experience the historic significance and beautiful scenery of the locales associated with the life, teachings and miracles of Jesus with this day-long excursion, which takes you to Nazareth, the Sea of Galilee, the Mount of Beatitudes, Tabgha and Capernaum.
DurationApproximately 11 hours
Begin your outing as you board your motor coach and make the approximately two-hour journey to Nazareth, where Jesus spent his early years.
On arrival, walk up the hill to visit the Church of the Annunciation. Built on the site where the Archangel Gabriel revealed to Mary that she would be the mother of the Messiah, the church is not only the largest in the Middle East but one of the most revered in all of Christendom. See the altar, which incorporates a portion of the grotto where Mary lived, along with the 170-foot-tall cupola that rises high above the upper church and adds to its grandeur. Showcased in the basilica’s vast interior is a collection of magnificent mosaics, ceramic reliefs and other works of art.
Your next stop is to the Church of Josef, constructed over the chambers that once housed Joseph’s carpentry shop. Step inside to admire the church’s stained-glass windows before taking a walk through the town’s colorful bazaar and past Mary’s well, a white stone fountain located on the site of an underground spring where it is believed Jesus and his mother drew water. Today, the fountain serves as a shrine to the Virgin Mary.
Your walk returns you to your motor coach, which will transfer you to a Nazareth restaurant for lunch.
Refreshed, travel through the village of Cana, where Jesus performed his first miracle of turning water into wine, and then on towards the fabled Sea of Galilee, a journey that takes you from 1,230 feet above sea level to 680 feet below.
Soon you will arrive at the Mount of Beatitudes for your visit to the church and the chance to imagine yourself among the crowd that witnessed Jesus’ famous Sermon on the Mount. From here, transfer down the hill to another Biblical site, Tabgha, where Jesus multiplied the loaves and fishes.
Finally, visit nearby Capernaum. Located on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, the site is mentioned several times in the New Testament, with specific references as the home to apostles Peter, Andrew, James and John, and the tax collector Matthew. Capernaum is also noted as the location of several of Jesus’ healings and the center of his post-Nazareth ministry. During your visit, you will view the remains of the 4th-century synagogue.
A full day of experiencing the sites of Jesus’ life and teachings drawing to a close, re-board your motor coach for the 90-minute return to Ashdod.
