From the port of Ashdod, travel eastward, ascending the Judean Hills and tracing the ancient route to Jerusalem. You will drive through the fertile Ayalon Valley, home to Yad La’Shiryon at Latrun, the armored corps memorial site and museum.

After your drive, arrive at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority. This new museum, which opened in March 2005, is dedicated to documenting the history of the Jewish people during the Holocaust period, emphasizing each victim’s experience through original artifacts, survivor testimonies and personal possessions. This unique perspective is presented in a sprawling complex of tree-studded walkways leading to museums, exhibits, archives, monuments, sculptures and memorials.

After your two-hour visit to the museum, continue with a drive into Jerusalem. Pass the Hebrew University, home to 2005 Nobel Prize winner Professor Emeritus Robert J. Aumann; the Knesset (Israel’s Parliament); the Israel Museum, which houses the world-famous Dead Sea Scrolls; and the State Supreme High Court.

Following lunch in Jerusalem, make your way to the Old City, passing by the Kidron Valley and the tombs of Absalom and Zacharia – part of the vast first-century necropolis encircling Jerusalem.

Your drive continues into the walled Old City. Your walking tour of the Old City begins at Zion Gate, scene of some of the fiercest fighting during the siege of 1948. Enter the Jewish Quarter and see the Cardo, the main thoroughfare in Roman and Byzantine times.

Descend to the Lower City to see the Temple Mount and the golden-topped Dome of the Rock, considered to be the third holiest site in Islam. The Western Wall is next, thought to be closest to where the Holy Ark was kept.

Exiting the Old City at Dung Gate, re-board your motor coach and return to Ashdod and your Crystal ship.
