Traveling by motor coach, venture through town en route to Albany’s wine country.
With spring and summer growing conditions virtually identical to that of Burgundy, France, Albany hosts a thriving wine industry, the fruits of which you will enjoy as you arrive at Wignalls Winery, an award-winning, family owned winery known for producing both “super premium” and everyday wines. Bottlings include such Burgundian varietals as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, varieties virtually unknown in Australia at the time of the winery’s founding in 1982 and today some of the region’s most popular offerings.
During your visit, savor select vintages and discover why Wignalls Winery has been voted one of the top 25 cellar doors in Australia.
Then head to White Star Hotel, where you will enjoy a craft beer tasting, featuring beer from two of Australia’s leading boutique breweries, Little Creatures and James Squire. You will also be treated to lunch and tasting plates of local seafood and produce.
Ready for another round of wine tasting, transfer to Montgomery’s Hill Vineyard, set on north-facing slopes near the freshwater source of the Kalgan River, an ideal spot for growing premium grapes. Montgomery’s uses only the grapes picked from the Kalgan River property, a land with not only rich soil, but rich a history.
After your wine tasting, proceed to Mt. Romance Sandalwood Factory, Australia’s leading producer of sandalwood oil for use in perfumes and pharmaceuticals. Learn about the extraction of sandalwood oil, gain insights into the essence’s many applications and browse a collection of cosmetics and therapeutic products, perhaps making a purchase to take home, before returning to the pier.
Guests must be a minimum of 18 years of age in order to participate in wine tasting. It is recommended that guests dress in casual clothing and wear a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and flat, comfortable shoes. This excursion will operate in all weather conditions. The order of sights visited may vary.
