The Myvatn Nature Baths
Located about 65 miles south of the Arctic Circle, Lake Myvatn and its surroundings are some of Europe’s greatest natural treasures. Here, you will discover a tastefully designed bathing complex with a chance to take a relaxing dip in warm, soothing waters. Another highlight of today’s excursion is a stop to appreciate views of breathtaking Godafoss Waterfall.Price TBD
Lake Myvatn is situated about 90 minutes from the pier, but it will feel worlds away. Shaped by repeated volcanic eruptions and seismic activity, the landscape around the lake is a spectacular combination of surreal lava, crater and cave formations, sulfur-streaked mountains and sweeping wetlands teeming with wildlife.
In addition to its naturally formed attractions, the lake boasts
a beautifully designed bath complex, called Myvatn Natural Baths, which opened in June 2004. You will find that this is not a conventional swimming pool either in its appearance or how it is to be experienced. Per local tradition and for hygienic purposes, you will take a shower without swimwear in preparation for entering the lagoon. Separate dressing rooms for men and women will be available.
After rinsing off in the showers, don your swimsuit and slip into the baths’ warm waters, where you will be enveloped by clouds of steam that rise from a fissure deep in the Earth’s surface. You will also enjoy the unique blend of minerals, silicates and geothermal micro-organisms that soothe and nourish both skin and spirit.
This is an excursion perfectly suitable for physically disabled guests, as all facilities at Myvatn Nature Baths are easily accessed.
Emerging from the baths refreshed and invigorated, rejoin your motor coach and return to the pier and your Crystal ship with a half-hour stop to admire magnificent Godafoss Waterfall along the way.
It is recommended that guests wear a swimsuit, a cover-up and flat, comfortable shoes. Your ship’s escort will provide towels. According
to local custom and for hygienic purposes, guests will be expected to shower without swimwear prior to entering the natural baths. Separate dressing rooms for men and women will be available. As you will get wet on this excursion, any electronic devices (such as MP3 players, cell phones, cameras, etc.), as well as any valuable items must be stored in a sealable, waterproof dry bag or left on board the ship. Any damage occurring to these items is the responsibility of the guests. This excursion will operate in all weather conditions.
