Acapulco Old & New
Historic sites in Acapulco on today’s excursion range from the legendary New Spain to the heyday of Hollywood, featuring an 18th-century fortress to a legendary Hollywood hangout once owned by John Wayne.
DurationApproximately 4 hours
In La Quebrada, the world-famous cliff divers must time their launch to coincide with the incoming tide as they leap gracefully off the rocky headland and plunge some 130 feet into the seething ocean below. Enjoy cool refreshments on the terrace as you view the artistic exhibition.
Your next stop is a visit to Los Flamingos Hotel, where you will sip a refreshing beverage and stroll the grounds of this legendary haunt of old Hollywood, once owned by Tarzan’s Johnny Weissmuller.
Continue to the Fort of San Diego. Built over 200 hundred years ago, this fort protected Acapulco from British pirates. The Historical Museum inside its walls features exhibits tracing Acapulco’s history from an integral Spanish port to a sleepy fishing village and ultimately to today’s glamorous international resort.
You will then travel through the Main Avenue en route to Las Brisas residential area. Upon arrival at the top of the hill, the Chapel of Peace awaits, an interdenominational chapel that features the impressive Trouyet Cross, overlooking the superb views of the picturesque Acapulco Bay.
