The Difference Faces of Acapulco
During this delightful, half-day discovery, gain insight into the multiple facets of Acapulco as you explore areas renowned for their glamour, history and beauty.
DurationApproximately 3½ hours
Departing the pier via air-conditioned van, journey through the Caleta area, otherwise known as the “refuge of the Hollywood gang.” Big-screen favorites such as Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, Errol Flynn and John Wayne once owned homes and spent their holidays here. Although this era is but a memory, many of the houses and hotels frequented by these film favorites continue to evoke thoughts of times past.
Enjoy a refreshing beverage at the famous Hotel Los Flamingos, which was built in the thirties, before continuing along Avenida Costera Miguel Aleman to the Chapel of Peace. This contemporary structure is surrounded by tropical gardens and boasts a stunning panoramic view of Acapulco. Marvel at its imposing cross, which dominates the scene by rising to a height of 137 feet.
Continuing on, proceed to the Fort of San Diego. Built to stave off invasion by marauding British pirates, it is situated on a hill overlooking the harbor, and was constructed as a classic five-point fortress surrounded by a moat. Within the walls of this formidable complex is an intriguing history and anthropology museum. Enjoy browsing among displays of ceramics, tapestries and baskets before returning to your Crystal ship.
