Board your motor coach in Lofoten and make the scenic journey to Gravdal, first stopping in Reine. You will appreciate why this fishing town was declared the most beautiful Norwegian village by a Norwegian magazine. Small wooden houses surrounded by tidy gardens huddle around a little white church. In the background, steep mountain peaks rise to majestic heights.

Continue to Nusfjord, where you will experience the charms of this fishing hamlet, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Restored cabins give the village a quaint atmosphere and the local store, situated in one of the old wooden buildings in the center of town, offers not only the necessities of life but also a window onto the past. Nusfjord is still a busy and bustling place, especially during the fishing season, January through April.

Step inside one of the old cabins to watch a short film revealing the history of Nusfjord and then enjoy a short walk through the village on your own, with a chance to browse the shops. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.

Next, make the half-hour transfer to Vikten to visit the Glass Hut, the studio of Åsvar Tangrand. An artist of fabled repute, Tangrand was the first in Northern Norway to pursue glassblowing when he began practicing the craft in 1977. Witness a work of art molded from a nondescript glob of material, a process that is almost magical, and survey the unique glassworks on display before relaxing in the studio’s lounge area to admire beach and ocean views.

Having appreciated the masterworks of both artist and nature, depart for the Lofotr Viking Museum, a “living museum” located in Borg. Survey exhibits of relics uncovered by archaeologists and replicas of Viking homes. The idea of the museum is to show how the Vikings lived a thousand years ago and recreate the atmosphere of a Viking village, complete with typical handcrafts, buildings and foods. Of particular note is the impressive 272-foot Viking-era house, the largest of its type ever found.

From the museum, make the half-hour transfer to Gravdal, where your Crystal ship awaits.
