This cruise charts a course for some of Europe’s loveliest – and most underrated – coastal towns and islands. From Rome, we visit salt-licked Salerno, which has all the picturesque charm of the Amalfi Coast but without the crowds, before arriving in Syracuse on Sicily’s Ionian Coast, renowned for its ancient Greek and Roman ruins. Malta’s historic fortified capital of Valletta is next, followed by a relaxing day at sea that brings us to the Cretan city of Chania, which stuns with its 14th-century Venetian harbor. We explore the strollable Peloponnesian port town of Nafplio, before calling at sun-soaked Syros, an unsung Cyclades gem. The port of Piraeus, for ancient Athens, is our final stop.

Salerno, Italy

may 14, 2028

8:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Salerno, Italy picture
There's far more to this lively port city than its location as a gateway to the Amalfi Coast. The Centro Storico – one of the region's best-preserved medieval centers – is an atmospheric maze of cobbled streets and alleys, dotted with trattorias offering authentic Neapolitan cuisine to a mostly local clientele. The city's Duomo has breathtakingly ornate interiors, rich with intricate mosaics and vivid frescos, while up above the city, the 6th-century Castello di Arechi offers spectacular views across the rooftops to the Gulf beyond. Quite why Salerno remains under the radar is a mystery.

03.

Siracusa (Sicily), Italy

The entire city of Siracusa is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This small town at the top of the Argolic Gulf is considered one of the most beautiful and romantic towns in Greece and was the nation's first capital. Its charming old town will leave you in awe thanks to its traditional architecture, three castles and restaurants where you can enjoy traditional Greek cuisine.

08.

Syros, Greece, Greece

may 20, 2028

8:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Anchor

Syros, Greece, Greece picture
Syros may lack the glitz of Mykonos and the Instagram appeal of Santorini, but this unsung Cyclades gem stands proudly apart from its neighbors with an identity all its own. Steeped in a rich Venetian heritage, the island offers a lesson in architectural diversity: its bougainvillea-lined streets showcase a mélange of grand neoclassical mansions, traditional whitewashed houses, Greek Orthodox churches, and Roman Catholic cathedrals. The pace is unhurried and easy-going: tavernas and bars are buzzy but never overrun – so you can linger over your meal and order another ouzo – and there's plenty of space on the sandy shores to spread your towel, even in peak season.
