Our Fort Lauderdale roundtrip voyage begins with two relaxing days at sea to enjoy Crystal Grace’s onboard offerings – from her sumptuous spa to convivial pool bar. Francophone St. Barts is our first port of call, to see and be seen in the glamorous boutiques of Gustavia; followed by Roseau, the capital of Dominica, where you can hike through lush jungle and swim in refreshing waters. Then buzzy Bridgetown delivers us to powder sands that celebrities love to bask upon, before the soaring twin volcanic cones, the Pitons, signal we are approaching Castries on Saint Lucia. In Basseterre, Saint Kitts, bask on super-soft sands and discover French and British colonial architecture, and in Puerto Rico’s capital San Juan, stroll colorful cobbled streets and sip on piña coladas – the tropical cocktail was invented here in the 1950s. Another two sea days offer plenty of opportunity for rejuvenation before we arrive back in sunny Fort Lauderdale.

The pretty, red-roofed harbor town of Gustavia is the beating heart of stylish St. Barts. High-end boutiques, ritzy restaurants, and iconic cocktail bars pepper the palm-fringed streets, while mere minutes from the town center, you'll find pristine stretches of sand and sparkling waters. Take your pick from dozens of beaches: Anse de Flamands presents camera-ready scenery, Baie de St-Jean has chic beachside bistros, and Anse du Grand Cul-de-Sac is a snorkeler's paradise. Just don't be surprised if you encounter an A-lister or two – the French-speaking Caribbean island has long been the preferred playground of billionaires and big-name movie stars.

Roseau, Dominica

The capital of Dominica is compact but characterful, home to a bustling Old Market, lush botanic gardens, and a small museum that reveals a fascinating look at Dominica's past. Beyond Roseau's city center, retreat from the rush of daily life: discover volcanic black-sand beaches, fragrant tangles of rainforest, bubbling geothermal springs, and thriving wildlife, including the rare Sisserou parrot and sperm whales (this is the only country whose waters they live in year-round). Adventure-lovers should hike through rugged mountain terrain to the emerald waters of Titou Gorge – if the enchanting surroundings look familiar, it's because they feature in the film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Bridgetown, Barbados

Barbados is sun-drenched beaches, clear blue-green waters and cool trade winds. Its capital is a UNESCO treasure and inland you'll see lovingly preserved plantation houses, lush sugar cane fields and fragrant gardens. Reminders of former British rule abound, from cricket fields to Lord Nelson's statue and the original Trafalgar Square. Don't miss Bridgetown's bustling Careenage and the shops on Broad Street, which offer deals on luxury imports from Britain.

Basseterre is the compact coastal capital of the Caribbean island St. Kitts, where verdant hills and sugar-white sands meet architectural artefacts of French and British colonial rule. The town center is anchored by Independence Square – formerly Pall Mall Square – an 18th-century plaza with an ornate fountain and lush lawn, while nearby, the Georgian-inspired Circus is modeled after London's own Piccadilly. Venture just beyond the city to explore the UNESCO-listed Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, an 18th-century British-built fortress that offers sweeping views and serves as a striking reminder of the island's layered history.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico's capital makes a strong impression – even before you arrive on shore. Sailing into the harbor, keep an eye out for El Morro, a 16th-century citadel and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Castillo San Cristobal, a fearsome fortress built to scare away invaders, and La Fortaleza, the impressive official residence of the Governor of Puerto Rico. Once ashore, step back in time along cobbled streets and through squares flanked by pastel-colored Spanish colonial buildings. Or take your pick of beaches – will it be the golden-sanded Isla Verde, the snorkeler-approved El Escambrón, or the laid-back Ocean Park? Just don't leave San Juan without sampling a piña colada (or two) – the tropical cocktail was invented here in the 1950s.
