Crystal: A Legacy of Luxury
Through an uncompromising focus on personalized, impeccable service, abundant space, superior quality and numerous choices, Crystal has redefined the luxury vacation. As a result, we have become the benchmark against which guests and travel professionals now measure all other cruise lines.
Crystal Cruises was founded in 1988 by then parent company NYK with a vision to set a completely new standard in luxury travel and world exploration. Exceptionally designed ships would incorporate the best design concepts of legendary ocean liners and world-class hotels, styled with all the latest advancements of modernity. Destination-rich itineraries would span the globe, offering savvy travelers unprecedented opportunity for intimate and authentic shoreside discovery.
Beginning with Crystal Harmony in 1990 – heralded for her groundbreaking standard of luxury and style found in the grand ballrooms, lavish casino and splendid dining areas and complemented by intimate lounges, bars and opportunities for enrichment – Crystal Cruises set a new bar for luxury in the cruise industry. We have been raising that bar ever since, as Crystal Symphony embarked in 1995, followed by Crystal Serenity in 2003. The two are now the most awarded luxury ships in the world, following Crystal Harmony’s retirement in 2005. As Crystal continues to invest in the heart of our brand, both of these beautiful ships completed extensive redesigns in 2017 and 2018.
With an eye toward innovation and bringing the world’s most discerning travelers more ways to explore, Crystal began an unprecedented expansion in 2015 with the support of our new parent company, Genting Hong Kong (GHK). First launching Crystal Yacht Expedition Cruises’ Crystal Esprit, we presented guests with an intimate, boutique yachting experience that comprises adventurous pursuits and access to some of the world’s most elite harbors, as well as the superlative attention to every detail for which Crystal is known.
In 2016, Crystal’s distinct brand of luxury expanded to Europe’s rivers, as Crystal River Cruises began with Crystal Mozart and was joined by four identical new-build ships in 2017 and 2018. Together, Crystal Bach, Crystal Debussy, Crystal Mahler, Crystal Mozart and Crystal Ravel represent the most luxurious ships in Europe, with all-suite, butler-serviced accommodations and innovative technology to streamline every facet of guests’ experience.
Our award-winning fleet will continue to reach new horizons and new travelers as we grow, introducing the PC6-designated expedition yacht Crystal Endeavor in 2020 and the first of a series of Diamond Class ocean ships in 2022. Through every new venture, ship, program, itinerary and onboard experience, Crystal’s focus remains on delivering the incomparable service and standard of excellence for each guest who embarks with us.
This commitment to our guests has earned Crystal the acclaim of travelers and industry professionals since our inception, including more “World’s Best” awards than any other cruise line in history, including being recognized in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards for a record 25 years; voted “World’s Best” by the readers of Travel + Leisure for 20 years. It is our exceedingly high rate of returning guests, however, that is the clearest testament to the success of our mission. Time and again, selective travelers choose to explore the world with Crystal for reasons as diverse as their individual preferences and interests.
Aboard Crystal voyages, guests can pursue old passions and new interests, with dynamic speakers, classes and specialized programming through the Creative Learning Institute aboard Crystal Cruises; special performances from local European artists and musicians aboard Crystal River Cruises; and active challenges shoreside with Crystal Yacht Expedition Cruises.
As luxury travelers continue to evolve and set their sights on new experiences, we continue to ensure that the renowned “Crystal Experience” is the very best in the world, anticipating and exceeding their wishes at every turn.
