Ambassador Marc Ginsberg (Bethesda, MD)
Marc Ginsberg was the first U.S. Ambassador of Jewish heritage to a Middle East nation, appointed to the post by President Clinton. With a three-decade career focused on the Middle East as a diplomat and as an international corporate lawyer, Ginsberg is an expert on the politics and economics of this volatile region. Ginsberg served as the U.S. guide for the first Middle East economic cooperation conference in Morocco. A highly sought-after consultant to several major network and cable news outlets, as well as Al Jazeerah (Arab satellite TV), Ginsberg addresses a variety of audiences on U.S. foreign, defense and economic policy. He provides expert analysis of current world events, including the rebuilding of Afghanistan, conflict with Iraq, and the continuing tensions between Israel and Palestine, giving audiences a comprehensive understanding of key elements in the struggles overseas.

Susan W. Hardwick (Eugene, OR)
Susan W. Hardwick is a Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Oregon, an Educational Consultant for the National Geographic Society, and the past president of the National Council for Geographic Education. Her research and teaching specializations focus on the human geography of Canada and the United States and issues in geographic education. She has authored or co-authored twelve books and a long list of refereed journal articles and book chapters including three widely used textbooks; My World Geography, currently being used by thousands of middle school geography and social studies students in the U.S. and Canada, The Geography of North America: Environment, Political Economy, and Culture, a widely used university level textbook, and Geography for Educators: Standards, Themes, and Concepts for pre-service and in-service geography and social studies teachers. 

Perhaps best known as the co-host of The Power of Place, an Annenberg/PBS public television series and travel lecturer for educational cruise ship and rail tours, Professor Hardwick was most recently honored as the recipient of the Association of American Geographer’s Gilbert Grosvenor Award in Geographic Education and the National Council for Geographic Education’s Distinguished Mentor Award. During her tenure at California State University before relocating to the University of Oregon in 2000, she was selected out of more than 23,000 faculty in the state of California for the statewide Outstanding Professor Award.

Dr. Jay Christofferson (Napa, CA)
Dr. Jay P. Christofferson earned his Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from the University of Utah in 1961, a master’s degree in 1964 and Ph.D. in 1970 in zoology from the University of Hawaii. He was employed at California State University, Stanislaus (CSUS) from 1970 to 1996, where he was promoted from assistant professor to professor. He served as the biology department chairman for three years, associate dean of the College of Arts, Letters, and Sciences (ALS) for four years and the interim dean of the College of ALS for two years. He left CSUS to become the dean of the School of Science and Natural Resources at Lake Superior State University, where he served until accepting the position of vice president, academic affairs at the California Maritime Academy, a campus of the California State University system. He retired from this position June 30, 2004.

Dr. Gary Hoffman (Cleveland, OH)
Gary S. Hoffman, M.D., M.S., received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and pursued advanced training in Medicine and Rheumatology at Dartmouth Medical School. He is the Harold C. Schott Chair for Rheumatic and Immunologic Diseases, Founder of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Vasculitis Care and Research, Founder and past Chairman of the International Network for the Study of the Systemic Vasculitides (INSSYS), Chairman of the Department of Rheumatic and Immunologic Diseases at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Professor of Medicine at Lerner College of Medicine. Prior to joining the Cleveland Clinic, he was the Head of Vasculitis and Related Diseases at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Hoffman has led investigations of new therapies for the treatment of the systemic vasculitides (inflammation of blood vessels). His work includes the coordination of INSSYS based multi-center studies of new treatments and diagnostic tools to assess vasculitis disease activity. His laboratory is studying factors that may be involved in determining organ vulnerability and selective targeting in vasculitis. Among the numerous awards he has received for contributions to vasculitis research are the NIH Director's Award, the NIAID Director's Award, the Wegener's Foundation Award for Excellence in Clinical Research, the William Ischmael Award, the Pemberton Award and the Sam and Maria Miller Cleveland Clinic Award for Excellence in Clinical Research. He has been repeatedly listed among the “Best Doctors in America” and has also received awards for excellence in teaching medicine. Dr. Hoffman is on the Editorial Boards of numerous rheumatology journals and is the Editor of Current Opinion in Rheumatology and the textbook Inflammatory Diseases of Blood Vessels. Dr. Hoffman is a past member of the Board of Directors of the American College of Rheumatology, serves on The FDA Advisory Board and Boards of numerous lay organizations whose goals are to educate patients and support research in vasculitis.

Dr. John McMichan (Scottsdale, AZ)
Born in Melbourne, Australia, John McMichan obtained his medical education at Monash University and then spent time in Surgery and Surgical Research at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne. After a period as a Ship's Surgeon, John with his wife Jan, moved to Rochester, MN where he joined the staff of the Mayo Clinic specializing in Critical Care Medicine, Anesthesiology and Medical Education. Because of their love of passenger ships, John and Jan have taken many cruises to all parts of the world and now, as John has retired from clinical practice, he is a frequent lecturer at sea discussing a variety of medical topics in a light and informative manner and providing take-home messages for better health and longer life.

Judge William Rickett (Ret’d) (Wooster, OH)
Bill Rickett is a retired Ohio judge, current visiting judge, former criminal trial attorney, and former law professor who taught a broad range of topics. He presided over a diverse docket encompassing many areas of the law and forensic evidence was always an important component. Judge Rickett earned a Bachelor of Science in education and a Master of Arts in broadcast journalism from The Ohio State University and was a history and political science teacher. While teaching full time, he earned his Juris Doctor cum laude from The University of Akron School of Law. He became a criminal trial attorney and gained extensive expertise in the use of forensic evidence during his many years of private practice. While in private practice, Judge Rickett was an adjunct professor at The University of Akron School of Law. He ultimately came to the law school full time and served as assistant dean, assistant professor of clinical law and director of the law school's national championship mock trial team, training law students in the art of trial advocacy. His classes had a heavy focus on how to use and counteract the use of forensic evidence gathered at crime scenes. Hundreds of Judge Rickett's former students now practice throughout the country as prosecutors and criminal defense attorneys. Judge Rickett was appointed by Ohio's governor to a judicial vacancy in Wayne County. He ran unopposed for a full term the following year. Now retired and sitting by assignment as a visiting judge, he continues to teach as an adjunct professor of trial advocacy. Additionally, he has been a lecturer and facilitator for the Ohio Judicial College and the Ohio State Bar Association.

Bill Toone (Escondido, CA)
Bill Toone is an internationally recognized conservation biologist and currently the executive director of the ECOLIFE Foundation. He began his career with a fascination for birds and launched his studies on the critically endangered California condor. From collecting eggs from the wild to rearing chicks with a lifelike hand puppet, Bill brought his own creative twist to his work. His passion for wildlife and unusual places has led him to work in Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Cameroon and Madagascar to name just a few of the more than 100 countries where more nights were spent in tents than hotel rooms. His joy in sharing unusual but pertinent wildlife tidbits led to early appearances on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and PBS’ Real Jurassic Park. Later he worked with Olivia Newton-John filming conservation stories in Costa Rica and was most recently featured on CBS' Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood.

Hans Neuner (Algarve, Portugal)
Chef Hans Neuner was born in Austria to a family of cooks. For the first nine years of his career he worked under renowned chef Karlheinz Hauser at the Adlon Hotel in Berlin, as well as the two-Michelin star Tristan Restaurant in Spain, and the one-Michelin star Seven Seas restaurant in Hamburg. In 2007, he was invited to run the kitchen of the Ocean restaurant at Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spa in Algarve, Portugal. Just two short years later, he won his first Michelin star and in 2011, earned his second star. This achievement makes Hans the second and youngest chef to carry the two stars of "Red Guide" in Portugal. Hans' passion for local produce combined with technical precision and a touch of creativity is rewarded by his great accomplishment in the culinary world. He is still the Executive Chef at the Two-Michelin Star Ocean restaurant and has recently been named Portugal's Chef of the Year 2012.

Rob Wilson (Laguna Beach, CA)
Chef Rob Wilson has an extensive culinary background that began as a teenager when he was a dishwasher at Chart House restaurant in Dana Point, CA. He quickly excelled from there, moving on to graduating from the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in New York. Rob soon worked as a Sous Chef at Surf and Sand Resort in Laguna Beach and eventually became the co-owner and Executive Chef of Cervino's in Mammoth Lakes, CA. He then spent thirteen years as Executive Chef for The Ritz Carlton Company at several locations in Southern California. During his time with the Ritz, Rob was named Chef of the Year in 2008 by Chef magazine. Currently, he is the Executive Chef at the Montage Laguna Beach.

Nina Wemyss (San Francisco, CA)
Nina Wemyss is a distinguished wine historian and entertaining raconteur. She has created cultural programs on wine and civilization and presents them throughout the U.S. and internationally. Nina has been a featured wine historian on the History Channel, served as a wine auctioneer for charity auctions, and has created and edited two wine books. She has also spent seventeen years as Wine Historian, Lecturer, and Cultural Ambassador for Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa. She then moved on to do similar features at The Napa Valley Reserve, H. William Harlan's private vineyard and wine estate. Currently, Nina is focused on her travels, education and entertaining her audiences with wine, art and history programs while maintaining work with several prestigious Napa wineries.


Tony Abou-Ganim (Las Vegas, NV)
Tony Abou-Ganim is a celebrated mixologist with an extensive background in the beverage industry. He has worked in San Francisco and New York City before being hand-picked by Steve Wynn to create the cocktail program at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Abou-Ganim won the 2007 Iron Chef America competition with Mario Batali and has a DVD and written several books. He has also appeared on the Fine Living Network program Raising the Bar: America's Best Bar Chefs. Currently, Abou-Ganim operates his own beverage consulting firm that specializes in bar staff training, product education and cocktail development. He holds the title of National Ambassador of the US Bartenders Guild and is an Associate Member of the Museum of the American Cocktail.

Get your creative juices flowing using a variety of media in classes taught by our specially trained Odyssey Art at Sea instructor Catherine Van der Meulen (Litchfield, CT). The relaxing and social aspects of knitting have been added to our Odyssey Art at Sea program on select cruises. Marylin Gallamore (Elmira, Canada) will host knitting classes and all levels are welcome. Participants are encouraged to knit together sharing skills and advice in a congenial environment. Participation is limited.

If you do not already own the iMovie for iOS app, you must have iOS7 in order to download iMovie from the App Store. If you have an older version of the iMovie app, be sure to update to the current version. You cannot download the app on board the ship.
