Crystal Visions Enrichment Program

Destination Lecturer: Adventure Traveler and Author

Rick Deutsch (San Jose, CA)
A California resident since 1975, Rick Deutsch has explored the state from the Pacific to the Sierra, from the redwoods to the deserts. He’s been from the top of Mount Whitney (the highest peak in the lower 48) to the depths of Monterey Bay. An authority on California history, his richly illustrated presentations make the Golden State come alive – from the early missions to the Gold Rush to the bustling cities of today. Retired from a successful career as a Silicon Valley marketing executive, Rick embarked on a path of adventure writing and motivational speaking. As a member of the National Speakers Association, he gives presentations to organizations, museums, associations, and companies, while his daily blogs bring his readers along on vicarious journeys – both in California and to adventure spots throughout the world. Rick has written two guidebooks on Yosemite National Park, most recently One Best Hike: Yosemite's Half Dome. He holds a BS from the University of Maryland, an MS from USC, and an MBA from Santa Clara University.

Special Interest Lecturer: World Affairs

Prof. Louis Rene Beres (West Lafayette, IN)
Professor of Political Science and International Law at Purdue University, columnist and author, Dr. Beres was educated at Princeton (Ph.D., 1971). His ten published books deal with such issues as US foreign policy, terrorism, counter-terrorism, nuclear strategy and nuclear war. Dr. Beres is also the author of more than fifty major law journal articles, and of over one hundred scholarly articles dealing with various philosophical, psychological, historical and military dimensions of world politics. His lectures provide a stimulating and informed guide to critical issues of our time.
