Destination Lecturer: Award-Winning Broadcast Journalist

Ken Rees (Bristol, England)
Ken Rees brings to the role of destination lecturer over 25 years experience as a world-travelling foreign correspondent. During his career, he has reported extensively from Italy, Greece, and the Middle East. His many news credits include the Lebanese civil war, the first Gulf War, the loss of the space shuttle Challenger, and the sectarian troubles of Northern Ireland. Ken has held almost every job in a television newsroom from scriptwriter, news editor, and reporter to Director of News and Current Affairs. During a 15-year career with Britain’s flagship network program, ITN’s News at Ten, he served as a Senior Foreign Correspondent and spent six years covering the United States from Washington, D.C. In 1986 the Royal Television Society named Ken as Television Reporter of the Year, their highest honor. He now works as a broadcast consultant, trains journalists for TV companies, and writes on travel and world affairs.

Giancarlo Impiglia (Bridgehampton, NY)
Giancarlo Impiglia is an artist and art historian whose name is renowned in the world of art and among cruise aficionados. When he left his native Rome for New York, he carried with him a solid classical education in Fine Art. He was born to a family of artists and musicians and he studied at the Art Lyceum and the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome and he continued his studies at the Italian Center of Cinematography. By the late '60s Giancarlo Impiglia, already a well established artist in his native country, was re-proposing the revival of the international and eclectic Art Deco style, which in the '20s and '30s was adopted for the décor of luxurious cruise ships.

Special Interest Lecturer: World Affairs

James C. Suggs (Potomac, MD)
A native Floridian and graduate of the University of Florida, Mr. Suggs, joined the Central Intelligence Agency in 1962, during the presidency of John F. Kennedy. Over the years, he served in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Latin America on assignments addressing a broad range of critical intelligence challenges confronting the nation. He speaks French, Spanish and Thai. He retired in 2008 following a career of some 46 years. He continues to embark on frequent world travel to enrich his understanding of global issues. He is also an active participant in the U.S. Foreign Policy Association's 'Great Decisions' initiative designed to promote the ongoing analysis of world affairs and their impact on U.S. national interests.

Passport To Music presented by Yamaha and Crystal Cruises: Instructor Gloria Wright (Anderson, SC) teaches an innovative and fun course as an introduction to keyboard playing for adults. Tradition and technology meet in harmony to create this progressive piano-style program. With an emphasis on hands-on learning using Yamaha's exciting portable keyboards supported by the Clavinova digital piano, guests learn nearly a dozen songs during the cruise. An overview of general musical skills, including listening skills and note reading is included, as well as fun group activities such as music trivia and name that song. Passport To Music is designed for those with little or no previous keyboard experience.

Odyssey Art At Sea Instructor

Get your creative juices flowing using a variety of media in classes taught by our specially trained Odyssey Art at Sea instructor Paula Dewell (Wakefield, RI).

Computer University@Sea

Berlitz Foreign Language Instruction: Italian classes, focusing on basic vocabulary and phrases to help guests communicate in foreign countries, are taught by certified Berlitz Language instructor Francesca Catanzaro Ricchairi (Derwood, MD).

Nordic Walking
Crystal Cruises is the only cruise line to offer a Nordic Walking program to help you get more out of your limited exercise time on board. The use of lightweight poles for stability and balance will facilitate your fitness needs even if you have knee or hip issues. Two specially designed adjustable poles work the upper body while walking. Like cross country skiing, the poles are used by the arms to match each step the person takes. Our Fitness Staff will guide you to quickly be deck-walking for fun and fitness. You will be using feather weight aluminum poles provided by the market leader, LEKI®.

Bill has been a Golf Professional for over 30 years and is a life member of the PGA of America. Bill has been the Head Golf Professional at several clubs in Southern California, the most prominent being the Pauma Valley Country Club in the San Diego area which was rated one of the Top 100 Courses in the United States. Bill has been teaching for Crystal Cruises for 18 years.
