Ken Rees (Bristol, England)
Ken Rees brings to the role of destination lecturer over 25 years experience as a world-travelling foreign correspondent. During his career, he has reported extensively from Italy, Greece, and the Middle East. His many news credits include the Lebanese civil war, the first Gulf War, the loss of the space shuttle Challenger, and the sectarian troubles of Northern Ireland. Ken has held almost every job in a television newsroom from scriptwriter, news editor, and reporter to Director of News and Current Affairs. During a 15-year career with Britain’s flagship network program, ITN’s News at Ten, he served as a Senior Foreign Correspondent and spent six years covering the United States from Washington, D.C. In 1986 the Royal Television Society named Ken as Television Reporter of the Year, their highest honor. He now works as a broadcast consultant, trains journalists for TV companies, and writes on travel and world affairs.
David Burgess (Liverpool, England)
David Burgess is a well-respected and experienced destination speaker who delivers his presentations in an entertaining, enjoyable, humorous and unique style. David’s presentations draw on his many years of foreign travel as well as his college lecturing skills mixed in with more than a dash of his Liverpool humor that make his series of on board lectures a must see. Prior to training as a college lecturer, David worked as a presenter and producer on UK local radio in Liverpool. David is a full-time college lecturer for The Manchester College, Europe’s largest FE college.
Michael Carter (St. Catherines, Canada)
Dr. Michael Carter received his PhD from McMaster University in 1999. He teaches Latin, Greek, Ancient Sport, and Greek and Roman History in the Department of Classics at Brock University, in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Currently, his primary research interest relates to the social and cultural significance of gladiatorial contests and similar (Roman) entertainment spectacles in the Greek, eastern provinces of the Roman Empire. He is concerned especially with the effect that the adoption and adaptation of such thoroughly Roman spectacles in the Greek world had on Greek society and identity. He has published a number of scholarly articles on these topics, and his research has featured on such radio programs as As It Happens (CBC), The World (BBC/PRI), Wait Wait...Don’t Tell Me! (NPR), and in popular journals such as Archaeology magazine, History.com, and Discovery.com. This material is the topic of his current book-length project. He is also interested more broadly in Greek and Roman relations, the topography of Rome, Roman archaeology, and the writing of history. Dr. Carter is the recent winner of the 2013 Faculty of Humanities Award for Excellence in Teaching at Brock University.
Marcus Sherwood (Sussex, England)
Marcus Sherwood is a Classics graduate who has travelled widely as a teacher and lecturer in Classical History. An authority on the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean, his special enthusiasm and expertise is in tracing the influence of these civilizations on our modern culture, and bringing this alive to his audience. Marcus is passionate about the real history and legacy of the classical civilizations, including the Greeks, Romans, Phoenicians and Egyptians, but he also enjoys exploring the truth behind the colorful myths and legends of the Ancient World.

The relaxing and social aspects of knitting have been added on select cruises. On this sailing, Dorothy Calio (Oxford, CT) will host knitting classes and all levels are welcome. Participants are encouraged to knit together sharing skills and advice in a congenial environment. Participation is limited.

Want to take your home movies to the next level and learn how to share them with family and friends? In five entertaining classes, learn how to shoot and edit short movies using an iPad. Improve your video and photo skills. The course is taught by professionals, but aimed at non-professionals.
Course requirements: please bring your own iPad pre-loaded with the iMovie application. If you do not already own the iMovie for iOS app, you must have iOS7 in order to download iMovie from the App Store. If you have an older version of the iMovie app, be sure to update to the current version. You cannot download the app on board the ship. Please sign up online using the Priority Check-in & Planning Center (PCPC). If you sign up on board, make sure to sign up EARLY, in the Library, as the class size is limited.

John has over 35 years experience in the Golf business and became a PGA member in July, 1972. He served his Apprenticeship under the late Tony Novitsky at Columbine Country Club, Littleton, Colorado. Columbine was the Host Club for the 1968 PGA Championship. John is a life member and a Quarter Century member of the PGA of America. John has held positions as an Assistant Golf Professional, Head Professional, Director of Golf and General Manager at Private Country Clubs and a Sheraton Resort. He is currently a PGA Instructor at the SDGA, San Diego Campus. The other SDGA Campus's are located in Phoenix, Myrtle Beach and Orlando. Also, John is an independent PGA Golf Instructor at the Carlsbad Golf Center, Carlsbad, CA.
