Crystal Visions Enrichment Program

Special Interest Lecturer

Giancarlo Impiglia (Bridgehampton, NY)
Giancarlo Impiglia is an artist and art historian whose name is renowned in the world of art and among cruise aficionados. When he left his native Rome for New York, he carried with him a solid classical education in Fine Art. He was born to a family of artists and musicians and he studied at the Art Lyceum and the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome and he continued his studies at the Italian Center of Cinematography. By the late '60s Giancarlo Impiglia, already a well established artist in his native country, was re-proposing the revival of the international and eclectic Art Deco style, which in the '20s and '30s was adopted for the décor of luxurious cruise ships.

Special Interest Lecturer: Counter-Terrorism Expert

Farhana Qazi (Fairfax, VA)
For nearly a decade, Farhana Ali has been the most prominent American-Muslim woman to study al-Qaeda and the conflicts in the Muslim world. She regularly travels to Kashmir and Pakistan to assess political crises and militant groups. Before 9/11, Ms. Ali was the first Muslim woman to work in the US government’s Counter-Terrorism Center, where she received several Meritorious Awards during her five years of service. She later joined the RAND Corporation as an international policy analyst, focusing on the impact of Islamist movements and security challenges in South Asia. Currently, Ali is a senior instructor on the AFPAK team, providing cultural training on Pakistan to US military officers and civilians across the US government. She is a special guest writer for Oxford Analytica. A highly sought-after lecturer, Ms. Ali appears regularly in the media, including BBC World News, Al-Jazeera English, CNN, and C-Span. Her publications have appeared in Newsweek, The Washington Post, and several academic journals. She speaks Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi, and French, and is studying Arabic.
