Ken Rees brings to the role of destination lecturer over 25 years experience as a world-travelling foreign correspondent. During his career, he has reported extensively from Italy, Greece, and the Middle East. His many news credits include the Lebanese civil war, the first Gulf War, the loss of the space shuttle Challenger, and the sectarian troubles of Northern Ireland. Ken has held almost every job in a television newsroom from scriptwriter, news editor, and reporter to Director of News and Current Affairs. During a 15-year career with Britain’s flagship network program, ITN’s News at Ten, he served as a Senior Foreign Correspondent and spent six years covering the United States from Washington, D.C. In 1986 the Royal Television Society named Ken as Television Reporter of the Year, their highest honor. He now works as a broadcast consultant, trains journalists for TV companies, and writes on travel and world affairs.
Eric Burns has won major awards in all three fields in which he has written. As an Emmy Award-winning NBC News correspondent, he was named one of the best writers in the history of broadcast journalism. As an author, two of his books have been proclaimed the “Best of the Best” by the American Library Association, making him the only non-academic ever to win the award twice. Turning to the theatre, his first play won the Eudora Welty Emerging Playwrights Competition. Burns was an NBC News correspondent for eight years; for three of them, he had his own segment on the Today show, called “Cross-Country.” He is best known as the host of Fox News Watch, over which he presided for ten years. Vanity Fair called Fox News Watch one of the two best shows on the network. It was often the top-rated weekend program on all four of the all-news networks. The author of nine books, Burns has had five of them “adopted” by various colleges and universities for courses in journalism, American History, and American Studies. His Infamous Scribblers: The Founding Fathers and the Rowdy Beginnings of American Journalism, is considered the definitive work on the subject. His two ALA Award winners were The Spirits of America: A Social History of Alcohol and The Smoke of the Gods: A Social History of Tobacco. Burns neither drinks nor smokes!
