Bulent Atalay, a scientist, artist and author, has been described by NPR, PBS, Smithsonian and the Washington Post as a “Twenty-first Century Renaissance Man.” Dr. Atalay's academic background includes undergraduate and graduate training in theoretical physics at a number of universities including Georgetown, University of California-Berkeley, Princeton and Oxford. He travels around the world lecturing at academic institutions and on cruise ships on the "A-subjects," art, archaeology, astrophysics and atomic physics, confessing that he knows much less about the "B-subjects," business, banking, biology and botany.
An acclaimed Leonardo expert, Atalay is the author of two best selling books on the intersection of art, science and mathematics, with Leonardo, the pre-eminent Renaissance man, serving as the foil. His best selling book, Math and the Mona Lisa, has appeared in 13 languages. His last book, Leonardo's Universe, coauthored with classicist Keith Wamsley, so far is in two languages, English and Japanese. He is currently working on a new book for National Geographic Books entitled The Miracle Year, about Isaac Newton's explosive creativity during the Year of the Plague (1665-1666).

His lectures provide a stimulating and informed guide to critical issues of our time.

He is now Professor of Aerospace Engineering in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he teaches courses on space operations and design and space policy.
*Theme Presentations: Mind, Body & Spirit
Dane Rauschenberg (Pennsylvania)
Dane Rauschenberg is an extreme athlete who made his mark on the running world as the man who ran 52 marathons in 52 consecutive weekends. He is also the man who ran a 202-mile relay, solo, and completed a 350-mile run up the coast of Oregon. He doesn't just know running, he has explored it to the deepest reaches of its mental, physical and emotional boundaries. Yet, contrary to other runners who astound you with their feats, Dane started his athletic career as a swimmer, graduated to collegiate rugby and actually boxed Golden Gloves for a time. Only after all of this did running present itself to him. His late foray into the running world not only shows how one can find new athletic talents later in life, but also is the perfect example of how ignoring the impossible is how virtually everything major has ever been accomplished in history. His seminars and speeches are known as powerful, passionate, engaging and above everything, encouraging. His first book, See Dane Runhas been a surprise breakout hit for both professional runners and those outside the sport. It empowers people to set goals for themselves and use their passion and strength to reach those goals in plausible ways.
