Wireless Maritime Services - Cellular Service At Sea

  • Through an agreement with Wireless Maritime Services (WMS), Crystal Cruises lets you take advantage of your wireless devices while at sea. Using your own mobile phone and telephone number, you can make and receive calls to and from fellow travelers who are on the ship, and friends and family who are far away on land. If you currently have the service through your home provider, you can also send and receive text messages. Other available wireless services include use of PDAs, such as your BlackBerry®. Charges for using the WMS system will appear as roaming charges on the regular monthly bill from your service provider. Contact your mobile home service provider for more information about rates, additional fees and taxes. While you do not need to do anything special to connect, you must have authorized service for international dialing through your home provider. To determine if you will be able to access Wireless Maritime Services, please contact your home service provider.
  • 911 calls do not work on the ship. If you have an emergency while onboard the ship please dial 3333 from any of the ships phones. Do not attempt to use 911 as an emergency number while onboard the ship.
  • Service availability depends on the participation of your home mobile phone service provider and service permissions. Not all providers have agreed to enable wireless services at sea. In addition, not all prepaid phone plans will be supported. If your phone does not work, please check with your home provider.
  • Once the ship is operating in international waters (at least 12 nautical miles out to sea throughout most of the world, or beyond 2 nautical miles from European Union countries), the WMS network will switch on. Because you will be roaming in international waters, you may see the words “cellular at SEA,— “901.18— or “NOR18— displayed at the network code on your handset. The exact display varies based on the type of phone you have. These words and numbers simply indicate that you are roaming and that international maritime roaming rates will apply for the services used.
  • While on the ship’s network, when calling North America (U.S., Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean), dial as you would on land (1 and the area code and number). To reach other international destinations you must dial 011 (or +) and the country code and number. If you do not know the country code, please contact your service provider. You must also make sure the service you have through your home provider is authorized for international dialing.
  • You will be billed by your home service provider, and calls or messages will appear as roaming charges on your bill.
  • While using the WMS network, international maritime roaming rates will apply. Rates vary depending on your home wireless service provider and the country zone you are calling. Base rates, taxes, fees and other charges may be added by your home wireless service provider.
  • Yes, you are able to send and receive text messages if you have this service through your home service provider.
