May 23, Wednesday
La Coruña, Spain » 8 am 5 pm
La Coruna is one of several Spanish cities to claim it was founded by Hercules. While its formation may be steeped in myth, La Coruna's beauty is very real indeed. Its squares and gardens are ideal for a leisurely stroll. One such garden is the Jardines de Mendez Nunez, located in the center of town near the harbor. Another is the Jardine de San Carlos. Dating from 1843, it flourishes on the site of the old fortress that once guarded the harbor. Virtually no Spanish town is without a historic church, and La Coruna is no exception. Called Calle de Santa Maria, the church is modeled in the Romanesque-gothic style and features an elaborately carved door dating to the 13th century. For more history and inspirational views, visit the Museo Arqueologico e Historico. Situated in a 16th-century fort, the museum exhibits artifacts from the area and showcases beautiful panoramas.
May 24, Thursday
Bilbao, Spain » 8 am 12 m
Home of the newly-erected Guggenheim Museum, this bustling city epitomizes the merger of modernity and history. The gateway to the Cantabrico Sea from the plateau of Castilla, Bilbao has flourished from the middle ages as a busy port, and a major exporter of the metals found in surrounding areas. Today, the city flourishes with a vital exuberance, as modern architects erect new buildings next to 19th-century structures.
May 25, Friday
  St-Jean-de-Luz, France » 8 am 6 pm
This fishing port on the Basque coast is a gem, sparkling with old-world charm. Venture into the town center and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back into the Middle Ages, as historic Basque and its Moorish architecture presides over narrow, cobblestone lanes. There’s plenty to explore, from the lively bars and restaurants in the main square to the casino and sophisticated shops that give the town a more modern touch. It’s also home to the Church of St. John, where Louis XIV married Marie Thérèse of Spain. Incidentally, it was at that wedding that the legendary pastry chef Adam delighted guests with Basque macarons, a heartier cousin to the traditional French macaron; a visit to Saint Jean-de-Luz would not be complete without sampling this tasty confection.

May 27, Sunday
St-Malo, France » 7 am 6 pm
A walled city on the English Channel, Saint-Malo suffered widespread destruction during the bombings of World War II, but has since been lovingly restored to its 17th- and 18th-century splendor. The city’s top destination is the citadel, from where the Corsairs once raided enemy ships in the name of the King.

Today, the city is decidedly more welcoming to visitors, with bustling shops, bars, and hotels within the city walls, not to mention the highest concentration of seafood restaurants in Europe. Although crowds can be quite dense in high season, savvy travelers know to take a stroll atop the ramparts, where they can enjoy 360-degree views away from the hordes.
May 28, Monday
Honfleur, France (overnight) » 9 am
Honfleur's unique character and atmosphere has inspired painters, writers and musicians over the ages. Nestled at the mouth of the Seine River, this small fishing port is renowned for the glorious voyages of discovery by its 17th century mariners, and has blossomed into one of Normandy's most appealing harbors.

Honfleur became a center of artistic activity in the 19th century. Eugène Boudin, the painter of stirring seascapes, was born here in 1824 and artists such as Courbet, Sisley, Pissarro, Renoir and Cèzanne have visited Honfleur.

Preserved from World War II's destruction, this quaint old Norman town has managed to retain its charm of yesteryear. The "Old Dock," narrow jetty houses, the museums and monuments are witness to a rich heritage of art and history.

Note: Arrival and departure times for this port will depend on tidal restrictions.

May 31, Thursday
Hamburg, Germany (overnight) » 8 am
Hamburg is often called the Green City. In fact, as much as 22% of the cityscape is graced with historic gardens and inviting parks. If such land-bound beauty and its associated recreation is not enough, Hamburg is also a water city, boasting a location on the Alster and Elbe, with a network of waterways and bridges that rivals Venice. Indeed, 8% of the city is water, and Hamburg has more bridges than the famed Italian city. Few places in the world offer sailing and boating in the middle of town. Add first-rate shopping, world-class theatrical and musical events, and historic architecture, and you have a truly extraordinary city with innumerable ways to pass the time.
