Theme Lecturer

Clive Clark (La Quinta, CA)
Clive Clark first took up the game of golf at the age of 13 when he lived in Scarborough, England. Of the six major Amateur tournaments in Great Britain, he won three and was runner-up in the other three.  He also played successfully in The Walker Cup. On the final green, Clive holed a 33ft putt which halved the entire match against the USA. Clive turned Professional shortly after his 20th Birthday and broke the course record in his first round as a Pro during the PGA Championship.  Clive has won the Danish Open and five other European Tour events.  His best finish in a Major was 3rd in The British Open at Hoylake, when he played with Jack Nicklaus in the final round.  Clive has also been a member of the European Ryder Cup Team.  Additionally, he had a hole-in-one at Augusta’s 16th hole during the first round of The Masters. At the age of 30, Clive became Head Professional at the prestigious Sunningdale Golf Club near London.  Clive has done golf broadcasting for BBC Television for 18 years as one of their lead golf announcers alongside Peter Alliss.  Peter and Clive subsequently formed a golf course design company and designed some 20 courses together in Europe.

Clive now lives in La Quinta near Palm Springs in Southern California where he has his own very successful golf course design business.  He has now completed 30 golf courses in Europe and the USA.  Among the many awards his designs have achieved, Belgrade Lakes GC in Maine was rated by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine as “The Best Course in Maine." It was also rated by Golf Digest as the number 1 course in New England. Clive is a member of Tradition Golf Club (where he was the inaugural President for a term of 4 years through 2012), and The Hideaway Golf Club (where he and Pete Dye each designed 18 holes).  He is also a member of The Madison Club, and is an Honorary Member of Royal Porthcawl in Wales. Clive is a Class ‘A’ member of the PGA and the European Tour.
