Susan W. Hardwick (Eugene, OR)
Susan W. Hardwick is a Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Oregon, an Educational Consultant for the National Geographic Society, and the past president of the National Council for Geographic Education. Her research and teaching specializations focus on the human geography of Canada and the United States and issues in geographic education. She has authored or co-authored twelve books and a long list of refereed journal articles and book chapters including three widely used textbooks; My World Geography, currently being used by thousands of middle school geography and social studies students in the U.S. and Canada, The Geography of North America: Environment, Political Economy, and Culture, a widely used university level textbook, and Geography for Educators: Standards, Themes, and Conceptsfor pre-service and in-service geography and social studies teachers.
Perhaps best known as the co-host of The Power of Place, an Annenberg/PBS public television series and travel lecturer for educational cruise ship and rail tours, Professor Hardwick was most recently honored as the recipient of the Association of American Geographer’s Gilbert Grosvenor Award in Geographic Education and the National Council for Geographic Education’s Distinguished Mentor Award. During her tenure at California State University before relocating to the University of Oregon in 2000, she was selected out of more than 23,000 faculty in the state of California for the statewide Outstanding Professor Award.

Robert Levy (Naples, FL)
Bob Levy is chairman of the board of directors at the Cato Institute. He joined Cato as senior fellow in constitutional studies in 1997 after 25 years in business. He also sits on boards of the Institute for Justice, the Federalist Society, and the George Mason Law School. Mr. Levy received his Ph.D. in business from the American University and then founded CDA Investment Technologies, a major provider of investment information and software. After leaving CDA in 1991, he went to George Mason, where he was chief articles editor of the law review. He received his J.D. degree in 1994 and, for the next two years he clerked for Judge Royce Lamberth on the US District Court and Judge Douglas Ginsburg on the US Court of Appeals.
For many years, Bob was an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Washington Post, National Review, and many other publications. He has also discussed public policy on national radio and TV programs, including ABC’s Nightline, Fox’s The O’Reilly Factor, MSNBC’s Hardball, and NBC’s Today Show.
Bob’s latest book, co-authored with William Mellor and published in May 2008, is The Dirty Dozen: How 12 Supreme Court Cases Radically Expanded Government and Eroded Freedom. Most recently, Bob served as co-counsel in District of Columbia versus Heller, the successful Second Amendment challenge to D.C.’s gun ban.
