Tom Faranda's global trends have been on target for over 25 years. Bill Miller (Secaucus, NJ)
Bill Miller is considered an international authority on the subject of ocean liners and cruise ships. This includes those great ships of the past, those "floating palaces," as well as the current generation of cruise ships, the "floating resorts." Called "Mr. Ocean Liner," he has written over 60 books on the subject - from early steamers, immigrant ships and liners at war to other titles on their fabulous interiors, in post card form and about the highly collectible artifacts from them.
Robert Schrire (Cape Town, South Africa)
Robert Schrire was, until recently, chair and professor in the politics department at the University of Cape Town and the Director of the Institute for the Study of Public Policy. He also teaches at Princeton University. His presentations look at how our world is being impacted by changes in politics, religion, technology, economics, and population. Robert is best known as the original host of the television program Talking Politics and he had a regular column in The Sunday Times for several years. Much in demand as a public commentator, his views have been published in Time, Newsweek, The Economist, and The Washington Post. The BBC's chief analyst during South Africa's first democratic elections, he has worked closely with many prominent TV personalities including Ted Koppel and David Dimbleby. A consultant to UNESCO and the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations, Robert presents a highly-acclaimed series to CEOs of major corporations, entitled "Our Changing World: Thinking about the Future” and has led study tours for groups as diverse as the National Trust and Harvard and Stanford Universities. A graduate of the University of Cape Town, Robert pursued post-graduate studies at Columbia University and the School of International Service – American University in Washington, D.C., and holds a doctorate from the University of California.

Allen Mawer (Canberra, Australia)
Allen Mawer is a well known and widely published Australian historian specializing in Maritime history. He previously worked in a variety of Commonwealth ministers’ offices and departments, and in later years as a member of the Senior Executive Service. Allen retired in 1994 to devote himself to research and writing, and since then he has published eight books. Most have been in the fields of maritime history and exploration, but he has also made forays into Australian history, most notably in a biography of Jack Doolan from Castlemaine, the original Wild Colonial Boy. His other major works are: Ahab’s Trade; The Saga of the South Seas Whaling; South by Northwest; The Magnetic Crusade; Contest for Antarctica; Most Perfectly Safe; The Convict Shipwreck Disasters of 1833-1842. Allen’s most recent work is Incognita: the Invention and Discovery of Terra Australis. He is often a lecturer at conferences and Universities.

The relaxing and social aspects of knitting have been added on select cruises. On this sailing, Betty Chessin (Genoa, NV) will host knitting classes and all levels are welcome. Participants are encouraged to knit together sharing skills and advice in a congenial environment. Participation is limited.

Want to take your home movies to the next level and learn how to share them with family and friends? In five entertaining classes, learn how to shoot and edit short movies using an iPad. Improve your video and photo skills. The course is taught by professionals, but aimed at non-professionals.
Course requirements: please bring your own iPad pre-loaded with the iMovie application. If you do not already own the iMovie for iOS app, you must have iOS8 in order to download iMovie from the App Store. If you have an older version of the iMovie app, be sure to update to the current version. You cannot download the app on board the ship. Please sign up online using the Priority Check-in & Planning Center (PCPC). If you sign up on board, make sure to sign up EARLY, in the Library, as the class size is limited.
