Tom Faranda (Scottsdale, AZ)
Tom has worked around the world and has clients in China, Japan, India, Malaysia, Mexico, UK, Germany, Australia and beyond. He has owned hotels in Costa Rica and the US, a pepper gas business in South Africa, an ATM firm, a global software firm, a mobile home venture in South Africa and a global consulting firm focused on business growth and profit and other ventures. Tom Faranda's global trends have been on target for over 25 years. He forecasted the rise and fall of Japan, the rise and fall of the Euro and the rise of China as a world power as well as many other trends. Tom brings global events and affairs into perspective and provides a view into the future of our world.

Larry Merchant
Larry Merchant, a former sports columnist with the Philadelphia Daily News and the New York Post, and a general columnist with the Los Angeles Herald Examiner, joined HBO Sports in 1978 as an expert analyst. Well-regarded for his no-hype style and his dramatic overviews of the fight scene, Merchant has covered a majority of the top boxing events of recent decades, including Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns, Alexis Arguello vs. Aaron Pryor, Michael Spinks vs. Larry Holmes, Marvin Hagler vs. Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson vs. Michael Spinks, Oscar De La Hoya vs. Felix Trinidad, De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather, Jermain Taylor vs. Bernard Hopkins and De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao. Merchant’s primary role was to offer pre- and post-fight analysis and between-round commentary, as well as conduct post-fight interviews.

Brooklyn born and Bronx raised, Larry is a product of the University of Oklahoma. In May 1985, Merchant received the prestigious Sam Taub Memorial Award for Excellence in Boxing Broadcast Journalism, presented by the Boxing Writers Association of America, for his commentary and analysis on HBO’s World Championship Boxing presentations. In October, 2002, he was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in Los Angeles. In June, 2007, the BWAA honored him with the James J. Walker Award for long and meritorious service. In June, 2009, Merchant joined a distinguished class of new inductees into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in upstate, New York.

Special Interest Lecturer: Professor of Political and International Relations

Robert Schrire (Cape Town, South Africa)
Robert Schrire was, until recently, chair and professor in the politics department at the University of Cape Town and the Director of the Institute for the Study of Public Policy. He also teaches at Princeton University. His presentations look at how our world is being impacted by changes in politics, religion, technology, economics, and population. Robert is best known as the original host of the television program Talking Politics and he had a regular column in The Sunday Times for several years. Much in demand as a public commentator, his views have been published in Time, Newsweek, The Economist, and The Washington Post. The BBC's chief analyst during South Africa's first democratic elections, he has worked closely with many prominent TV personalities including Ted Koppel and David Dimbleby. A consultant to UNESCO and the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations, Robert presents a highly-acclaimed series to CEOs of major corporations, entitled "Our Changing World: Thinking about the Future” and has led study tours for groups as diverse as the National Trust and Harvard and Stanford Universities. A graduate of the University of Cape Town, Robert pursued post-graduate studies at Columbia University and the School of International Service – American University in Washington, D.C., and holds a doctorate from the University of California.

Odyssey Art At Sea Knitting Instructor

The relaxing and social aspects of knitting have been added on select cruises. On this sailing, Betty Chessin (Genoa, NV) will host knitting classes and all levels are welcome. Participants are encouraged to knit together sharing skills and advice in a congenial environment. Participation is limited.

Want to take your home movies to the next level and learn how to share them with family and friends? In five entertaining classes, learn how to shoot and edit short movies using an iPad. Improve your video and photo skills. The course is taught by professionals, but aimed at non-professionals.
Course requirements: please bring your own iPad pre-loaded with the iMovie application. If you do not already own the iMovie for iOS app, you must have iOS7 in order to download iMovie from the App Store. If you have an older version of the iMovie app, be sure to update to the current version. You cannot download the app on board the ship. Please sign up online using the Priority Check-in & Planning Center (PCPC). If you sign up on board, make sure to sign up EARLY, in the Library, as the class size is limited.

Nordic Walking
Crystal Cruises is the only cruise line to offer a Nordic Walking program to help you get more out of your limited exercise time on board. The use of lightweight poles for stability and balance will facilitate your fitness needs even if you have knee or hip issues. Two specially designed adjustable poles work the upper body while walking. Like cross country skiing, the poles are used by the arms to match each step the person takes. Our Fitness Staff will guide you to quickly be deck-walking for fun and fitness. You will be using feather weight aluminum poles provided by the market leader, LEKI®.
