General Nick Halley is a recognized expert on leadership, terrorism, change management and integrity. His leadership expertise was learned and developed under the most stressful conditions - combat. His impressive background as a senior leader in the military, government and corporate worlds include: an Engineering Degree from West Point, Nuclear Physics Masters Degree from the University Of Virginia, Commander of soldiers in three conflicts-Vietnam, Grenada and Desert Storm (Iraq).

Sir Roger Carrick (London, England)
After National Service in the Royal Navy, Roger joined the Diplomatic Service and served in Sofia, Paris, Singapore, Washington, D.C. and Chicago. His career then took him to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, where he became head of Overseas Estate Development and an Under-Secretary of State. He was appointed British Ambassador to Indonesia in 1990, serving in that role until he was appointed British High Commissioner to Australia in 1994. He retired from public service in 1997.

Gloria Barnett (Kent, England)
Scientist, Author and Presenter, Gloria started out as a biologist with a special interest in Oceanography. Gloria obtained her first degree in Sciences, before completing her Masters Degree in Education. Gloria enjoyed teaching Science to 11-18 year old students for 15 years before moving on to life as an Education Consultant and Examiner involved in school improvement projects with inner city schools. The consultancy work included advising science teachers, writing teaching materials for science lessons, together with presenting teacher training courses on “Teaching Exciting Science” and writing revision books for A level Biology. This is the seventh year that Gloria has been taking time away from mainstream science educational issues and giving oceanography and science talks at sea and she enjoys sharing her understanding of science and oceans. Feedback is always positive as Gloria is enthusiastic and has a genuine love of her subject. Gloria is the author of The Amazing World Beneath the Waves and in this fully illustrated guide, Gloria shares her passion for the sea, explaining in accessible terms the fascinating underwater world of our planet’s oceans.
After attending the Staff College, Camberley, Rose became the Brigade Major 16th Parachute Brigade from 1973 until 1975. He was Commanding Officer of the 22nd SAS Regiment from 1979 to 1982, as part of which he was in control of the operation to free the hostages of the Iranian Embassy Siege in 1980. He commanded Special Service operations in-theatre as a colonel during the Falkland Conflict. He then served as the commander of the 39th Infantry Brigade from 1983 to 1985. In 1987, Sir Michael was the Commandant of the School of Infantry until 1988, when he became the first Director Special Forces until 1989. He attended the Royal College of Defense Studies.
Rose was General Officer Commanding North East District and Commander 2nd Infantry Division from 1989 to 1991, and between 1991 and 1993 served as Commandant of the Staff College, Camberley. Then, from 1993 to 1994, Rose was Commander UK Field Army and Inspector-General of the Territorial Army. Finally, from 1994 to 1995 he was Commander, United Nations Protection Force, Bosnia-Hertzegovina. He was Deputy Commander-in-Chief Land Command for part of 1995, then Adjutant-General and Aide-de-Camp General to The Queen until 1997. Rose was awarded the QGM 1981, made a CBE 1986, was knighted with a KCB 1994, and received the DSO in 1995.
Rose was one of the most highly decorated British soldiers in the latter part of twentieth century. He had extensive experience world-wide, particularly in the Middle East, as a special forces officer. Rose served in Germany, Aden, Malaysia, the Gulf States, Dhofar, and in Northern Ireland and the Falkland Islands, for both of which he was mentioned in dispatches, mostly in a relatively informal, small formation setting, working to very narrow objectives, with clearly superb results.

Dr. Teri Sowell (San Diego, CA)
Teri Sowell, lecturer and curator, is a dynamic speaker specializing in the art and culture of the Pacific Islands. Her research areas include the ritual and ceremonial use of objects in Polynesia, both past and present, with a special interest in sculpture, tattoo, and tapa cloth. In addition to research, publishing, and teaching, Dr. Sowell has curated many art exhibitions with venues ranging from the San Diego Museum of Art to The Brooklyn Museum. For the past twenty years, Teri has lectured around the world, bringing to life her knowledge and appreciation of Pacific art and culture to a variety of enthusiastic audiences. Her frequent travels to the Pacific keeps her in touch with the contemporary Pacific, enabling her to weave together threads of past and present cultural traditions in her lectures and writings. Dr. Sowell received her Ph.D. from Indiana University and currently teaches at the University of California, San Diego.

The relaxing and social aspects of knitting have been added on select cruises. On this sailing, Phyllis Buck (Miami, FL) will host knitting classes and all levels are welcome. Participants are encouraged to knit together sharing skills and advice in a congenial environment. Participation is limited.

Course requirements: please bring your own iPad pre-loaded with the iMovie application. If you do not already own the iMovie for iOS app, you must have iOS7 in order to download iMovie from the App Store. If you have an older version of the iMovie app, be sure to update to the current version. You cannot download the app on board the ship. Please sign up online using the Priority Check-in & Planning Center (PCPC). If you sign up on board, make sure to sign up EARLY, in the Library, as the class size is limited.

Richard Dutkowski is a Fellow of the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP) and the Master Photographers Association (MPA). He has been a successful professional photographer in the UK for over 20 years during which time his artistry has won him many prestigious awards and the title “UK Master Photographer of the Year.” He is also a Past President of the Master Photographers Association. Richard is a recognized leader in the medium of black and white photography. Portraiture has always been a passion and Richard treats each of his commissions as an opportunity to create unique portraits. Each is not only an object of beauty, but also has lasting value for generations to come. His work has often been described as priceless and his portraits now hang with pride in many homes and offices in Europe, America and Asia. With years of experience Richard is truly a 'Master' of technique, able to ‘paint’ his subjects with light and then capture their very essence and heart. Richard will be setting up reservations to have exclusive portrait sessions with guests.
