Alexander B. Murphy (Eugene, OR)
Frequent lecturer and author, Alec Murphy holds a bachelor’s degree in archeology from Yale University, a law degree from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in geography from the University of Chicago. He is past president of the Association of American Geographers and a leader in the effort to promote geographic education. His presentations help guests appreciate the nature and significance of the places where we sail.
Jon Bailey (Walnut Creek, CA)
Jon Bailey is well-known as a conductor, composer and teacher in the field of music, art and architecture. He holds degrees in music from Northwestern, UC Berkeley, and a doctorate from Stanford University. He was dean and professor of music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music prior to teaching in the Yale School of Music. Jon is professor emeritus at Pomona College in Claremont, CA where twice he won the coveted ‘outstanding teacher of the year.’ In addition he teaches at the prestigious Fromm Institute for Lifelong Learning at the University of San Francisco. He has been a program consultant for National Public Radio, and was an Arts Commissioner with the city of West Hollywood, CA. A recipient of two Fulbright research grants, he has traveled and studied in Europe and Australia. Jon has performed as a conductor and composer in Myerson Symphony Center, Dallas, Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall and Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles, Tchaikovsky Hall, Moscow and the Glinka Kappella in St. Petersburg. He has taken his collegiate and community choruses on tours to Europe, the Baltic Republics and Russia and has produced numerous CDs.

The relaxing and social aspects of knitting have been added on select cruises. On this sailing, Bonnie Spencer (Sutter Creek, CA) will host knitting classes and all levels are welcome. Participants are encouraged to knit together sharing skills and advice in a congenial environment. Participation is limited.

Want to take your home movies to the next level and learn how to share them with family and friends? In five entertaining classes, learn how to shoot and edit short movies using an iPad. Improve your video and photo skills. The course is taught by professionals, but aimed at non-professionals.
Course requirements: please bring your own iPad pre-loaded with the iMovie application. If you do not already own the iMovie for iOS app, you must have iOS7 in order to download iMovie from the App Store. If you have an older version of the iMovie app, be sure to update to the current version. You cannot download the app on board the ship. Please sign up online using the Priority Check-in & Planning Center (PCPC). If you sign up on board, make sure to sign up EARLY, in the Library, as the class size is limited.

Ian Schemper is a successful and accomplished photographer with over 25 years experience. With a dedicated passion to creating exquisite and unique lifestyle portraits, he has commissions all over the world. Most recently he was one of the official photographers for Omega at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, where he photographed numerous leading sporting stars and celebrities. A member of the prestigious Master Photographers Association (MPA), the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP) and the Swedish Photographers Association (SFF), Ian’s use of stunning locations as a backdrop to his portraits has won him acclaim from fellow professionals. Having worked for studios in the UK and Zimbabwe and now with his own portrait business in Sweden, Ian’s approach to achieving memorable portraits stems from his ability to establish relaxed and comfortable settings.
