Richard Morgan (Sarasota, FL)
Richard Morgan is a retired Federal executive level official with 31 years of government service, including 25 years for the Panama Canal Commission. He managed a large bureau responsible for all agency logistical, physical security, procurement and contracting, and land-based support activities of the Canal, and was a key player in planning and implementing the 1977 Panama Canal Treaty by which the Canal Zone was abolished in 1979 and the Canal itself was transferred to Panama at the end of 1999. His experience is first hand and personal, and he is a popular speaker on the Canal subject.
Jon Bailey (Walnut Creek, CA)
Jon Bailey is well-known as a conductor, composer and teacher in the field of music, art and architecture. He holds degrees in music from Northwestern, UC Berkeley, and a doctorate from Stanford University. He was dean and professor of music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music prior to teaching in the Yale School of Music. Jon is professor emeritus at Pomona College in Claremont, CA where twice he won the coveted ‘outstanding teacher of the year.’ In addition he teaches at the prestigious Fromm Institute for Lifelong Learning at the University of San Francisco. He has been a program consultant for National Public Radio, and was an Arts Commissioner with the city of West Hollywood, CA. A recipient of two Fulbright research grants, he has traveled and studied in Europe and Australia. Jon has performed as a conductor and composer in Myerson Symphony Center, Dallas, Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall and Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles, Tchaikovsky Hall, Moscow and the Glinka Kappella in St. Petersburg. He has taken his collegiate and community choruses on tours to Europe, the Baltic Republics and Russia and has produced numerous CDs.
Lt. Col. Bill Rothschild (Houston, TX)
Bill is your proverbial rocket scientist. He has 44 years of experience in the aerospace industry, including 20 years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. Bill retired a few years ago as the Director of Engineering Operations at Boeing's Space Exploration Division, and now serves as a consultant for NASA, the Air Force, and a variety of aerospace companies. He lectures frequently about space exploration to a wide range of audiences, presenting interesting, easy to understand, down to earth stories spiced with tantalizing insider information about the real moon race, what’s happening in space now, and an intriguing look into the future for this greatest of all adventures - the human exploration of space.

Bob Smolik, a veteran diplomat, represented the United States at embassies throughout Europe and at international organizations such as the United Nations, NATO, and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. As political advisor to U.S. military commanders in Europe and Africa, he worked in conflict mediation. As an economic diplomat, he has helped to open foreign markets to U.S. investors and traders on a fair and equal basis. During academic years 2005-2007 he was faculty member at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and faculty fellow at Telluride House. As an international lecturer on anti-corruption and good governance, he has worked in more than 30 countries throughout Latin America, Africa, and Europe. He engages audiences with passion and expertise, offering a look “behind the scenes” at how foreign cultures view the world. Bob holds graduate degrees from Berkeley and Harvard, an undergraduate degree from Cornell, and he is fluent in five Romance languages.

The relaxing and social aspects of knitting have been added on select cruises. On this sailing, Jill Treadwell (Olivenhain, CA) will host knitting classes and all levels are welcome. Participants are encouraged to knit together sharing skills and advice in a congenial environment. Participation is limited.

Want to take your home movies to the next level and learn how to share them with family and friends? In five entertaining classes, learn how to shoot and edit short movies using an iPad. Improve your video and photo skills. The course is taught by professionals, but aimed at non-professionals.
Course requirements: please bring your own iPad pre-loaded with the iMovie application. If you do not already own the iMovie for iOS app, you must have iOS7 in order to download iMovie from the App Store. If you have an older version of the iMovie app, be sure to update to the current version. You cannot download the app on board the ship. Please sign up online using the Priority Check-in & Planning Center (PCPC). If you sign up on board, make sure to sign up EARLY, in the Library, as the class size is limited.
