Dr. Yvette Sencer (Boca Raton, FL)
A specialist in the history of art and architecture, Dr. Yvette Sencer was Professor and Chair of Art History and Dean of Graduate Studies at State University of New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. An animated, popular speaker, passionate about art and teaching, she now presents an annual lecture series at the Boca Raton Museum of Art, and writes and speaks on many periods of art history.

Special Interest Lecturer

Robert Adams (Montréal, Canada)
Acclaimed stage and TV critic and best-selling author Robert Adams will review the following novels as part of the enrichment program. All novels are available in paperback.
Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha by Roddy Doyle. The Booker Prize-winning novel, brilliantly funny and touching, is about growing up gifted, but poor in Dublin.
The Dress Lodger by Sheri Holman. The social evils of early nineteenth century England are imaginatively explored with superbly researched detail by the New York writer.
A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. Perhaps the finest novel of the last thirty years, the novel is the gripping story of the fine line between hope and despair among India's dispossessed.

Dr. Sheldon Simon (Tempe, AZ)
Sheldon Simon (Ph.D. University of Minnesota) is professor of international politics and a specialist in U.S. national security and Asian international politics at Arizona State University where he has been a member of the faculty since 1975. The author or editor of ten books and over 130 scholarly articles and book chapters, Professor Simon's most recent books are Religion and Conflict in South and Southeast Asia: Disrupting Violence (2007) and China, the United States, and Southeast Asia: Perspectives from Politics, Economics, and Security (2008). Dr. Simon regularly consults with the U.S. State and Defense Departments on Asian security issues and travels abroad annually for research and guest lectures.

Bill Toone (Escondido, CA)
Bill begun his career in conservation as a graduate student where he studied causes of decline in the critically endangered California condor. He went to work for the Zoological Society of San Diego where he took on leadership of the zoo's involvement in the condor recovery efforts. Bill was soon recognized internationally for his efforts in the recovery of endangered species and begun to take his work abroad. He has now worked in more than forty countries with species running the range of butterflies to sea turtles to giant pigs in habitats ranging from tropical islands to the Grand Chaco of Paraguay and Argentina and the deserts of California.

Glenn Miller Orchestra
The world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra is the most popular and sought after big band in the world today for both concert and swing dance engagements.  With its unique jazz sound, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time.  The present Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently since, playing an average of 300 live dates a year all around the world.

Chris Howes (Kent, England)
Chris Howes is an award-winning music promoter and a well known London pianist and teacher with long experience in both secondary and adult education. He has worked with many internationally famous jazz musicians, he writes a weekly newspaper jazz column and has done periodic radio broadcasts, from BBC Radio 4 and World Service to local stations. He has extensive knowledge of and passion for music's historical, social and political environment as well as the nature of the music itself. All this, combined with his humor and audience rapport, has given his talks, courses and music presentations widespread success over many years.

Passport To Music presented by Yamaha and Crystal Cruises: Instructor Jean D’Addario (Supply, NC) teaches an innovative and fun course as an introduction to keyboard playing for adults. Tradition and technology meet in harmony to create this progressive piano-style program. With an emphasis on hands-on learning using Yamaha's exciting portable keyboards supported by the Clavinova digital piano, guests learn nearly a dozen songs during the cruise. An overview of general musical skills, including listening skills and note reading is included, as well as fun group activities such as music trivia and name that song. Passport To Music is designed for those with little or no previous keyboard experience.

Crystal Cruises is the only cruise line to offer a Nordic Walking program to help you get more out of your limited exercise time on board. The use of lightweight poles for stability and balance will facilitate your fitness needs even if you have knee or hip issues. Two specially designed adjustable poles work the upper body while walking. Like cross country skiing, the poles are used by the arms to match each step the person takes. Our Fitness Staff will guide you to quickly be deck-walking for fun and fitness. You will be using feather weight aluminum poles provided by the market leader, LEKI®.
