Howard Fineman (Washington, D.C.)
Howard Fineman is a political analyst for NBC News and MSNBC and is the editorial director of the AOL Huffington Post Media Group, which provides web-based news, information and entertainment to an audience of 250 million readers worldwide. Called "one of the more recognizable pundits on cable television" by The New York Times, Fineman is a regular on MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews and The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell. Fineman also appears on MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Show, NBC's Today Show and the weekend NBC-syndicated Chris Matthews Show. He joined The Huffington Post, one of the nation's most innovative and popular news sites, as political editor in October 2010 after many years as a reporter, columnist, editor and Deputy Washington Bureau Chief at Newsweek magazine. After the March 2010 merger of AOL and the Huffington Post, Fineman was named Editorial Director of the combined organization. The author of scores of Newsweek cover stories, Fineman's work has also appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post and The New Republic. He has interviewed every major presidential candidate since 1985 as well as business and entertainment leaders ranging from Bill Gates and Ted Turner to Warren Beatty and Jay Leno. Although Fineman now reports on TV exclusively for NBC, he has appeared on most major public affairs shows, including: Nightline, Face the Nation, Larry King Live, Fox News Sunday, Charlie Rose, and The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. He was a regular analyst on CNN from 1993-1998 before joining NBC. His book, The Thirteen American Arguments, was published by Random House in 2008 and was a national best seller. The paperback edition was published in 2009 and went to additional printings in 2010.

Verla Brown (Hilton Head Island, SC)
Verla Brown is an accomplished lecturer and artist who has been specializing in art appreciation lectures and art workshops around the world. Verla’s preferred art medium is oriental brush painting, and she is well known for her “People Around The World” collection; a 100 painting depiction of characters in native dress performing the daily tasks of their culture. They are shown in many exhibitions as well as added to private collections. Verla has lectured for many Fortune 500 corporations, including Westinghouse, General Electric, Mobile Oil Corporation, and Eli Lilly. She has been a guest lecturer for several universities, highlighting the special significance and impact of art on a global scale. Most recently, she was a lecturer for The University of South Carolina, on the subject of Southeast Asia. To date, Verla has provided enrichment experiences and destination lectures on 17 world cruises and over 500 cruises on lines in the six-star and above category. While she specializes in art of the Orient, her destination lectures include Africa, Asia and Australia.

Tim Severin has sailed a leather boat across the Atlantic in the wake of St. Brendan the Navigator, captained an Arab sailing ship from Muscat to China to investigate the legends of Sinbad the Sailor, steered a replica of a Bronze Age galley to seek the landfalls of Jason and the Argonauts and of Ulysses, ridden the route of the first Crusader knights across Europe to Jerusalem, travelled on horseback with nomads of Mongolia in search of the heritage of Genghis Khan, sailed the Pacific on a bamboo raft to test the theory that ancient Chinese mariners could have reached the Americas, retraced the journeys of Alfred Russell Wallace, Victorian pioneer naturalist, through the Spice Islands of Indonesia using a 19th century prahu, and traced the origins of Moby Dick, the great white whale among the aboriginal sea hunters of the Pacific.
Tim Severin holds the Gold Medal of the Royal Geographical Society and the Livingstone Medal of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society. He has been conferred with the degree of Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, by Trinity College, Dublin, and by University College, Cork.

Course requirements: please bring your own iPad pre-loaded with the iMovie application. If you do not already own the iMovie for iOS app, you must have iOS7 in order to download iMovie from the App Store. If you have an older version of the iMovie app, be sure to update to the current version. You cannot download the app on board the ship. Bruce Murray has been a C.P.G.A. member for over 40 years serving the C.P.G.A. as a Director, as well as serving as chairman of many association portfolios. He has been a Head Professional/Director of Golf at five clubs in his career the most prominent being Royal Montréal, Shaughnessy in Vancouver and now Wildfire in Lakefield, Ontario. Bruce's responsibilities have varied within the scope of the various clubs, but teaching has been and remains his main passion. He has taught students of every level, from novices to professionals and leading amateurs. Bruce is now retired from the private club life and lives outside Halifax, Nova Scotia.
