Verla Brown (Hilton Head Island, SC)
Verla Brown is an accomplished lecturer and artist who has been specializing in art appreciation lectures and art workshops around the world. Verla’s preferred art medium is oriental brush painting, and she is well known for her “People Around The World” collection; a 100 painting depiction of characters in native dress performing the daily tasks of their culture. They are shown in many exhibitions as well as added to private collections. Verla has lectured for many Fortune 500 corporations, including Westinghouse, General Electric, Mobile Oil Corporation, and Eli Lilly. She has been a guest lecturer for several universities, highlighting the special significance and impact of art on a global scale. Most recently, she was a lecturer for The University of South Carolina, on the subject of Southeast Asia. To date, Verla has provided enrichment experiences and destination lectures on 17 world cruises and over 500 cruises on lines in the six-star and above category. While she specializes in art of the Orient, her destination lectures include Africa, Asia and Australia.
Dr. John McMichan (Scottsdale, AZ)
Born in Melbourne, Australia, John McMichan obtained his medical education at Monash University and then spent time in Surgery and Surgical Research at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne. After a period as a Ship's Surgeon, John with his wife Jan, moved to Rochester, MN where he joined the staff of the Mayo Clinic specializing in Critical Care Medicine, Anesthesiology and Medical Education. Because of their love of passenger ships, John and Jan have taken many cruises to all parts of the world and now, as John has retired from clinical practice, he is a frequent lecturer at sea discussing a variety of medical topics in a light and informative manner and providing take-home messages for better health and longer life.
This exclusive program brings aboard local entertainers and experts to perform and share their unique, first-hand knowledge of art, politics, history, geography or archaeology of select regions and destinations. Guests can enjoy live lectures and interviews at sea and local shows in port.

Sir Andrew Burns (Minehead, England)
Sir Andrew Burns is a retired British Diplomat with extensive experience of South and South-East Asia and China/Hong Kong, Israel and the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, the US and Canada. His final post was as High Commissioner to Canada, having previously been Ambassador to Israel and Consul-General in Hong Kong and Macau. Earlier postings took him to India, Romania and the United States where he ran the British Information Services. In London he was Press Secretary to three successive Foreign Secretaries and was responsible on several occasions for policy towards the Indian Sub-continent and China. Since retirement to the Exmoor National Park, he has been the International Governor of the BBC and deeply involved in university governance at Royal Holloway, University of London and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, being also for three years the Chair of the Committee of all University Chairs in the UK. He currently chairs the International Polar Foundation (UK) which seeks to educate the young in polar science and climate change; Hestercombe Gardens Trust which manages two historic gardens in the top 20 in the UK; and bilateral associations with China and Canada. He is also on the boards of two City investment trusts investing in Asia. Following four years as the Executive Chairman of the Anglo-Israel Association, he has, since 2010, been the UK Envoy for Post-Holocaust Issues actively involved in handling some of the lingering consequences of WWII and working to ensure that the lessons of the Holocaust Era are never forgotten.

The relaxing and social aspects of knitting have been added on select cruises. On this sailing, Merina Benner (Placida, FL) will host knitting classes and all levels are welcome. Participants are encouraged to knit together sharing skills and advice in a congenial environment. Participation is limited.

Want to take your home movies to the next level and learn how to share them with family and friends? In five entertaining classes, learn how to shoot and edit short movies using an iPad. Improve your video and photo skills. The course is taught by professionals, but aimed at non-professionals.
Course requirements: please bring your own iPad pre-loaded with the iMovie application. If you do not already own the iMovie for iOS app, you must have iOS7 in order to download iMovie from the App Store. If you have an older version of the iMovie app, be sure to update to the current version. You cannot download the app on board the ship. Please sign up online using the Priority Check-in & Planning Center (PCPC). If you sign up on board, make sure to sign up EARLY, in the Library, as the class size is limited.

Bruce Murray has been a C.P.G.A. member for over 40 years serving the C.P.G.A. as a Director, as well as serving as chairman of many association portfolios. He has been a Head Professional/Director of Golf at five clubs in his career the most prominent being Royal Montréal, Shaughnessy in Vancouver and now Wildfire in Lakefield, Ontario. Bruce's responsibilities have varied within the scope of the various clubs, but teaching has been and remains his main passion. He has taught students of every level, from novices to professionals and leading amateurs. Bruce is now retired from the private club life and lives outside Halifax, Nova Scotia.
